Mets' Carlos Mendoza: Yohan Ramírez Wasn't Trying to Hit Brewers' Rhys Hoskins
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza is denying any ill intent from Yohan Ramírez after the Mets reliever threw behind Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins during Saturday's matchup between the two teams.
Ramírez was ejected after the incident, but Mendoza clarified following the 7-6 loss that Ramírez did not intentionally attempt to throw at Hoskins.

"He's trying to pitch up-and-in, trying to get a ground ball with a sinker," Mendoza said. "That happens. When you see his reaction, he's going after the ball. I know it looks really, really bad, but we are not trying to hit anybody here."
While Mendoza denied that Ramírez threw at Hoskins, he did acknowledge that emotions were high following Hoskin's controversial slide during Friday's game. However, he said that Ramírez has a history of inaccuracy, which is what caused the wild throw.
Ramírez only recorded 0.1 innings in the game, striking out one batter. Hoskins had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in the Brewers victory.
Hoskins history with the Philadelphia Phillies, who he was with for the first six seasons of his career, surely added to the emotion of the scuffle.
More sparks cold fly in the series finale, which is scheduled for Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET. Colin Rea will be on the mound for Milwaukee while Tylor Megill will be tasked with helping New York avoid a series sweep in the first games of the season.
