Shohei Ohtani Records 1st Hit After Dodgers Contract and MLB Fans Break out the Memes
When you sign the richest deal in MLB history, there's no such thing as uneventful moment on the diamond.
Shohei Ohtani's first official hit as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers was a two-out single off San Diego Padres ace Yu Darvish in the third inning of Wednesday's game in South Korea.

In the pantheon of incredible highlights from Ohtani's career, a third-inning single won't rank very highly. But it's certainly a memorable moment for Dodgers fans who have been eagerly awaiting the chance to see the two-time AL MVP play for them in a game that counts in the standings.
If nothing else, fans were able to have fun with Ohtani getting his first hit of the 2024 season out of the way.
Ohtani also checked off another first in the third inning when he stole his first bag of the season. The Dodgers were able to load the bases when Freddie Freeman and Will Smith walked, but Darvish struck out Max Muncy to end the threat.
The Dodgers and Padres are kicking off the MLB season with a two-game series at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul, South Korea. It's the first time MLB has played regular-season games in the country.
After the series ends, the two clubs will return to the United States and play a few more spring training games before diving back into the regular season on March 28.
Ohtani's first hit as a Dodger, much like this series, is a nice little teaser with a lot more good things still to come for everyone. His first game at Dodger Stadium will be one week from Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
