Daniel Jeremiah 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Vikings, Jets Trade for McCarthy, Harrison Jr.
Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network forecasted a pair of major trades in his newest mock for the 2024 NFL draft.
Jeremiah had the Minnesota Vikings moving up to the No. 4 overall pick in order to take Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. The New York Jets also traded up to No. 5 so they could select Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
It may not be a matter of if the Vikings get a QB in the 2024 draft but rather how aggressive they are in doing so. Minnesota lost starter Kirk Cousins to free agency and signing Sam Darnold is all the front office has done so far to replace him.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
From a draft perspective, the dilemma is that McCarthy — and USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and LSU's Jayden Daniels for that matter — almost certainly won't be on the board when the Vikings are on the clock at No. 11. But using a top-10 pick on him might be a significant reach at the cost of an another valuable draft asset or two.
McCarthy is the No. 54 overall player on the big board for Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department. B/R scout Derrik Klassen compared him to Baker Mayfield, which isn't exactly high praise.
The Vikings might have no other choice than to go all in on McCarthy, though, because Cousins' departure left them with few alternatives.
For the Jets, any pursuit of Harrison might be contingent on whether they succeed in signing free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams. The team is welcoming the former Los Angeles Chargers pass-catcher in for a visit this week but isn't the only one on his radar.
Williams is coming off a torn ACL that limited him to three games in 2023. Still, his arrival would probably preclude the Jets from making a big splash at receiver in the draft when they already have Garrett Wilson on the roster.
Should Williams sign elsewhere, receiver will be near the top of New York's draft needs because counting on Xavier Gipson or Jason Brownlee as the No. 2 option won't cut it for a franchise with big aspirations in 2024.
Harrison would be a massive addition to the passing game and one who'd warrant jumping from the No. 10 pick into the top five.
