Seahawks GM: Giants Told Drew Lock He Can Compete with Daniel Jones to Be QB1
The Seattle Seahawks had hoped to retain backup quarterback Drew Lock this offseason, but it sounds like the New York Giants gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.
Per The Athletic's Dan Duggan, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said during a radio appearance on Thursday that Lock's one-year deal with the Giants came after they "basically sold him on the opportunity to compete to be the starter" against Daniel Jones.
Lock will be making a guaranteed $5 million during the upcoming season. Schneider added that Lock views his one-year deal in New York as being similar to the one Baker Mayfield had with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season when he competed with Kyle Trask for the starter job.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮
It was just last year that the Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension. However, his 2023 campaign ended in disastrous fashion, as he was limited to six games due to a neck injury followed by a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8. He threw for 909 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions, and the team went 1-5 in games he started.
Lock spent the last two seasons as Geno Smith's backup in Seattle after arriving as part of the trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. He appeared in four games last season and threw for 543 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He made two starts while Smith was out with a groin injury, first in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers followed by a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
Perhaps Lock already has a leg up in the potential quarterback competition while Jones continues to recover from his torn ACL. It will be interesting to see how things develop when the Giants begin their offseason workouts.
