NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Brock Bowers Won't Work Out at Georgia Pro Day amid Injury

Tight end Brock Bowers won't work out at Georgia's pro day Wednesday due to a hamstring injury, according to NFL Network's Taylor Bisciotti.

ESPN's Jordan Reid reported Bowers is planning to showcase his skills for NFL teams on April 10, which is a little over two weeks before the 2024 NFL draft starts on April 25.

"I'd rather just be training for football. But it happens," Bowers said, per Connor Riley of DawgNation. "I'm getting faster. I'd rather be working out here with all the guys but stuff happens."

Head coach Kirby Smart lobbied on behalf of his player.

"Watch the tape. The tape speaks for itself," he told reporters. "Nobody really asks about Brock because everybody's seen him. They've been to our practices. They know what he can do. I don't think there's a lot of questions about Brock Bowers' toughness or ability."

The hamstring problem shouldn't do much to hurt Bowers' draft stock.

The 6'3", 243-pound pass-catcher is clearly the best player at his position. In three years with the Bulldogs, he had 175 receptions for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns. He possesses the size and speed to present obvious matchup problems against NFL defenses.

Bowers is the No. 2 overall prospect on Bleacher Report's 2024 big board with a grade of 9.3 and was projected to land with the Indianapolis Colts at the 15th pick in B/R's mock.

ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. laid out why the two-time John Mackey Award winner is still something of a variable, though. Kiper described him as a "fear-factor player" who should warrant top-10 consideration. However, he said teams might hesitate around that area of the first round because Bowers is a wide receiver/tight end hybrid rather than fitting neatly into one of those categories.

There's nothing Bowers could've done at Georgia's pro day to address that concern, but NFL personnel obviously would've loved to see him with their own eyes. Based on Reid's report, they'll still have that opportunity next month.
