Warriors' Draymond Green Says He Wants to Play 2-3 More Years, Won't Do Farewell Tour
There will be no farewell tour for Draymond Green when he retires.
The Golden State Warriors forward told Paul Pierce he would like to play for two or three more seasons before he hangs up his sneakers. He also said he will not announce ahead of time when his final season will be, meaning he is not interested in a farewell tour:
"I can't because somebody's going to do me like I said to you and then I'm f--ked," Green told Pierce while laughing.
Green famously heckled Pierce about the latter's farewell tour during a game in 2017 when he yelled, "chasing after that farewell tour, they don't love you like that. You thought you was Kobe?"
While Green wouldn't get the same type of reaction for a farewell tour that Kobe Bryant did either, Warriors fans would surely be interested in celebrating him.
After all, he is a four-time champion, four-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA selection, eight-time All-Defensive selection and the 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year who was an integral part of the franchise's dynastic run.
Golden State surely wouldn't have reached five straight NBA Finals from 2015 through 2019 without him, and he remains part of the team's core alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and head coach Steve Kerr.
Perhaps with that overall importance to the franchise in mind, he told Pierce the only way he would have a farewell tour was if his final season coincided with the final seasons of Curry and Thompson.
"Then I could ride Steph's coattails on his farewell tour and act like it's mine," he joked.
While there may not be a standalone farewell tour for Green, he will forever be remembered as a Warriors legend regardless of how many more seasons he plays.
