The Yankees added Soto via trade from the San Diego Padres and Verdugo in a deal with the Boston Red Sox last offseason. Judge, Soto and Verdugo should be the outfield mainstays with Stanton serving as the designated hitter more often than not.
Off the bench, the Yankees also have Trent Grisham and Oswaldo Cabrera as outfield options.
Last year, the Yankees endured their worst season since 1992, finishing with an 82-80 record. They entered 2023 with great expectations after making the American League Championship Series the year before, but injuries and ineffectiveness ultimately befell the team.
This year, the Yankees have reloaded and sport World Series hopes once again.
The 25-year-old Soto, a three-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger, just posted 35 home runs, 109 RBI and a .930 OPS for the Padres. Verdugo, a lifetime .281 hitter and reigning Gold Glove finalist, should help matters as well.
The healthy returns of first baseman Anthony Rizzo and starting pitchers Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes help strengthen the team too.
On the mound, the big addition is starting pitcher Marcus Stroman, who will be in the third spot in the rotation. Stroman, who made last year's All-Star team, has posted a 3.45 ERA from 2021 to 2023.
New York opens the season on March 28 with a four-game road series against the Houston Astros.
