Alex Morgan, Jaedyn Shaw, USWNT Energize Fans with Win vs. Colombia in W Gold Cup
After having its second loss in 43 meetings to Mexico this past week, the U.S. Women's National Team was looking for a big win over Colombia in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup quarterfinal on Sunday.
The team got just that in the form of a 3-0 victory that sent it to the semifinal against Canada.
The U.S. opened the scoring early in the first half, finding the net in the 13th minute. Alex Morgan drew a penalty kick, which Lindsey Horan converted.

From there, they tacked on two more before the halftime whistle to head into the final 45 with a comfortable 3-0 lead. The second goal came from a beautiful play that was capped off by a Jenna Nighswonger finish.
Jaedyn Shaw gave the U.S. some more insurance in extra time in the first half off an assist from Trinity Rodman. The goal made Shaw the youngest USWNT member to score in the knockout rounds of a competitive tournament.
The U.S. came out strong in the first half, and it was the energy they needed to get over the loss to Mexico. It began with veterans Morgan, who helped set up the first goal, and Alyssa Naher, who kept a clean sheet despite three shots on goal early.
The U.S. didn't find the net in the second half, but it didn't need to after the scoring outburst in the first half and Naeher's performance in goal throughout the game. The U.S. dominated offensively, getting off 15 shots and six shots on goal while Colombia had seven shots and three shots on goal.
The bounce-back game from the USWNT had fans hopeful for what the future holds for a young team moving forward.
The USWNT will take on Canada on Wednesday with a chance to advance to the final next week. Mexico and Brazil will face off in the other semifinal.
