Jalen Brunson on Knicks' Skid After Loss to Warriors: 'We Clearly Need to Be Better'
The New York Knicks finished February with a 4-8 record, and star point guard Jalen Brunson knows that's unacceptable at this point in the season.
Brunson told reporters after a 110-99 loss to the Golden State Warriors at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night:
"We're on to Cleveland, for sure. We clearly need to be better. We can definitely learn from our past. We can be upset, pissed off for the rest of today, until we fall asleep. But tomorrow morning, we've got to be focused on the next one."
"Keep our spirits up, keep our confidence up. We all need to work hard individually to be confident. Just come in the next day, be ready to go, just keep trusting each other, just keep chipping away."
The Knicks sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 35-25 record, 12 games back of the first-place Boston Celtics. Any team in the East catching Boston is unlikely at this point, but New York is still in contention for the No. 2 seed.
The Knicks have struggled in part due to injuries, mainly to OG Anunoby, Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle, but that's no excuse for a team that also includes Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo.
If New York hopes to lock up one of the top three playoff spots, it will need to have a much better March. The team will be back in action on Sunday against the No. 2 Cleveland Cavaliers.
