Video: Royce O'Neale Found out About Suns Trade from Nets While Playing Call of Duty
When you're an NBA player with a tradeable contract, the best thing you can do to avoid all of the noise that might be around you is to play a video game.
On FanDuel TV's Run it Back, Royce O'Neale revealed to host Michelle Beadle he found out he was being traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Phoenix Suns during a game of Call of Duty.
The most upsetting part of the story is O'Neale had to stop what he was doing to figure out the next steps in the process of shifting his life to Phoenix for at least a couple of months.
Anyone who has ever been playing a game of Call of Duty who tries to stop as it's going on knows the amount of chaos that can cause. He didn't specify if they were playing in teams or a free-for-all. The former would be much more chaotic to stop in the middle of.
O'Neale was the key player dealt in a three-team trade involving the Nets, Suns and Memphis Grizzlies in the hours before the trade deadline on Feb. 8. It wasn't a surprise that he got dealt because he's a wing who can shoot in the final season of his contract with a $9.5 million salary.
Despite not being able to finish his Call of Duty game after the deal, O'Neale has settled in nicely with the Suns. The 30-year-old is averaging 9.0 points on 38.6 percent three-point shooting and 6.1 rebounds per game in seven appearances.
