Warriors Roasted by Fans for Benching Kuminga in Loss to Giannis, Bucks Without Curry
The Golden State Warriors were without star guard Steph Curry for a notable matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. It's fair to say that the lack of his presence was felt.
The Warriors fell by a score of 129-118 despite holding a halftime lead and leading by as much as seven points in the third quarter. The Bucks rallied in the later stages of the third quarter and broke away in the fourth in order to secure the victory.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 33 points, nine rebounds and five assists while Damian Lillard had 27 points and Khris Middleton had 24.
The Warriors were led by Jonathan Kuminga off the bench, as he scored 28 points and and was 10-of-18 on field goals, 2-of-3 from three-point range and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. This came despite him being on the bench for a significant point of the final quarter, as Andrew Wiggins was on the court in crunch time.
This decision baffled fans on social media, with many expressing frustration at head coach Steve Kerr's decision-making and the team's struggles in Curry's absence.
The loss dropped Golden State to 18-21 on the season. That record keeps them in 12th place in the Western Conference and shows how the fortune needs to change in order to even qualify for the postseason.
Curry will inevitably return, as will the suspended Draymond Green, and that should provide a jolt to the team and help lead them to at least a spot in the Play-in Tournament. Still, it's not an ideal spot to be in with nearly half the season in the rearview mirror.
