Alex Sarr to Pistons, Bronny James Goes Undrafted in ESPN's 2024 NBA Mock Draft
The latest two-round NBA mock draft from ESPN's Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo has dropped, and French big man Alex Sarr is projected to go No. 1 overall to the Detroit Pistons.
French point guard Zaccharie Risacher, Colorado forward Cody Williams, Baylor guard Ja'Kobe Walter and Serbian point guard Nikola Topic round out the top five.
Another notable names include Purdue center (and reigning consensus player of the year) Zach Edey going 14th overall.

The rest of the lottery portion includes players such as Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham (No. 7), Duke big man Kyle Filipowski, USC guard Isaiah Collier (No. 9) and UConn big man Donovan Clingan (No. 13).
One notable mock draft omission is USC guard Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Givony explained why James didn't make the cut for now.
"A month into his college career, James is still finding his footing at USC, having some strong offensive performances (15 points in 20 minutes at Oregon State) and some lackluster ones (two points vs. Stanford, zero points vs. Washington State), as he is not the type of player who will consistently carry a team with his scoring. He's been excellent defensively, though, locking up in one-on-ones with his quick feet and strong frame, and flying around off the ball generating turnovers in bunches.
"Mostly a spot-up shooter and transition finisher, James has plenty of room to grow as a ball handler to become more of a true combo guard than an undersized 3-and-D wing like he currently appears. Finding another notch with his aggressiveness and scoring proficiency would make James a more clear-cut candidate for this year's draft, and it's not clear what his outlook will be if he doesn't break out in the coming months."
As for the mock's top choice, Sarr is a 7'1" center who plays for the National Basketball League's Perth Wildcats. The NBL is the top men's pro basketball league in Australia and New Zealand.
The 18-year-old has posted 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game for the league's second-place team. Sarr was born and raised in France and moved to the United States in 2021 to play in the Overtime Elite league. He then moved to Australia to play for Perth beginning this season.
Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman has compared Sarr to the Memphis Grizzlies' Jaren Jackson Jr., and he also has him pegged as the No. 1 choice right now.
"Even if his development stalls early, there is still safety tied to 7-foot-1 height and quick, light feet for surefire finishing, shot-blocking and switching," Wasserman wrote about Sarr recently. "But flashes of open-floor ball-handling and shotmaking also create a path to more offensive upside."
We'll soon find out if Sarr remains the leader in the clubhouse for the No. 1 choice. For now, though, there's a long way to go until June 27, when the 2024 NBA draft will take place.
We also don't know who will pick when in the top half of the draft until May 12, when the lottery portion is revealed.
At this moment, the league-worst Pistons, Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs all lead the way with equal 14.0 percent chances to earn the No. 1 pick.
