Steelers vs. Broncos: Is Tim Tebow's Media Attention a Distraction for Denver?

Ryan RudnanskyJan 4, 2012

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has been the source of a manic back-and-forth between the media and who have become known as "Tebowites" this season.

This kind of manic back-and-forth has been called "Tebow Mania."

The question is, has this mania boiled over, and will it be a distraction for the Broncos against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round?

Whether the Broncos like it or not, Tebow carries an energy with him wherever he goes, good or bad. When the Broncos won six straight games, this energy was good. After the Broncos have lost three straight games headed into the playoffs, this energy has taken a turn for the worse.

In that sense, the swirling storm that has enveloped the Broncos right now has a chance of becoming too much for the team, particularly for Tebow, who we must remember is just 24 years old.

However, I don't think Tebow Mania will be a factor.

Let us remember, the Broncos have been dealing with this all season long. At this point, it's pretty obvious that they don't care about what people are saying, especially head coach John Fox. Broncos management didn't care what the fans said in the preseason, choosing veteran Kyle Orton over Tebow, and Broncos management didn't care what the media was saying when they inserted Tebow into the starting lineup.

Is it annoying for the Broncos? Of course it is. Imagine gnats swarming around you and biting you constantly, and you'll get an idea of what the Broncos are experiencing now.

But that is what all of this pressure is for the Broncos: a swarm of gnats, but gnats all the same. It will bug them, but it's not like they have been consumed.

The real obstacle for the Broncos on Sunday will be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
