Mohamed Sanu: Talented Rutgers Wideout Declares for 2012 NFL Draft
Fresh off a Pinstripe Bowl victory, Mohamed Sanu of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights has announced that he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.
According to Tom Luicci of The Star-Ledger, Sanu says it was a tough decision and he will miss his teammates.
Sanu, a 6'2", 215-pound wideout, is projected as a late first-round draft pick.
Having broken records this past season, it makes sense for Sanu to depart for the NFL while his ceiling his high. There's always a chance his senior season is a flop, and that would crush his draft status, so he's making the right decision by coming out early.
In 2011, Sanu set a school record for most receptions in a single season with 115. Sanu also set a school record with 210 career receptions.
He finished the year with 1,206 yards, which is third all time at Rutgers. The junior has exceptional hands, and Bleacher Report's NFL draft guru Matt Miller has him as the fifth wide receiver selected in his latest mock draft.
There are plenty of debates as to whether or not Sanu is the fourth- or fifth-best wideout in the class of 2012. Justin Blackmon, Alshon Jeffery and Michael Floyd are the top three, with Sanu and Kendall Wright in contention for No. 4.
Speed is a concern for Sanu, but with a solid 40-yard-dash time in pre-draft workout, he could climb up draft boards.
Sanu is a great possession receiver that is a tremendous route runner. It will be very interesting to see which NFL team ends up drafting him.
