ESPN: 'Chatter' Lamar Jackson 'Was Thinking About Dropping in on' NFL League Meeting

Some around the NFL wondered whether free-agent quarterback "was thinking about dropping in on" the league meetings in Phoenix, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

Odell Beckham Jr., who also remains unsigned, did show up at the Arizona Biltmore to get some face time with coaches and general managers. CBS Sports HQ's Josina Anderson reported the veteran wide receiver planned to meet with the Baltimore Ravens.

Plenty of NFL fans remain puzzled why Jackson has received so little interest around the league. He's a former MVP in the prime of his career and plays the most valuable position on the field.

Quarterbacks of Jackson's caliber simply don't hit free agency like this.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank contrasted the situation with the frenzy around Deshaun Watson last offseason:

Blank's comments elided the fact Watson suffered a partial tear of his ACL in college and had another ACL tear as a rookie in 2017. The Cleveland Browns were also content to give him a fully guaranteed five-year $230 million contract despite him at the time facing 22 civil lawsuits for sexual misconduct.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on another reason why teams aren't jumping at the chance to sign Jackson.

The Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on the two-time Pro Bowler, and there's a belief they "would simply match any offer sheet." That's a common concern in the NBA with restricted free agents.

Jackson's relationship with Baltimore could devolve to the point where a separation is required.

The 26-year-old has already made his trade request public, having communicated it to team officials weeks ago.

Generally, money can certainly go some way toward mending fences. Perhaps all will be resolved if the Ravens finally pony up the kind of guaranteed cash Jackson is reportedly seeking.

But you can't blame Jackson for questioning how much he's truly valued by Baltimore if the team was content to let this saga drag on for so long.

The trouble is, nobody else is really stepping up to the plate, either.
