The Usos vs. Sami Zayn-Kevin Owens Is a WrestleMania Main Event, More WWE Raw Takes
WWE Raw stepped up the build for WrestleMania 39 in its March 6 episode.
The story of Sami Zayn and The Bloodline reached a new high, with Jey Uso betraying The Honorary Hab in favor of his brother, Jimmy.
Meanwhile, Zayn continues to push Kevin Owens to join forces with him. And if that happens, WWE will have its best story for The Show of Shows on April 1-2.
Austin Theory walked into a hornet's nest Monday by confronting John Cena. He was handily taken down by The Champ, who will now face him for the United States Championship at WrestleMania.
Bianca Belair overcame a tough challenger in Carmella, but she is stuck fighting midcard stars rather than challenging her 'Mania opponent, Asuka.
The rest of Raw is loaded with great talent from Chad Gable and Johnny Gargano to Baron Corbin and Bronson Reed. but they look like filler rather than possible 'Mania competitors at the moment.
As WrestleMania Goes Hollywood rapidly approaches, Raw must continue to build the hype for a show that WWE needs to make special.
The Usos vs. Sami Zayn-Kevin Owens Must Main-Event WrestleMania Night 1
1 of 4Every WrestleMania has a few key stories to tell. Sometimes, the main event angle is not the tale that has everyone most invested. While Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes will be a huge clash, there is a contest that is arguably more important.
At this time, The Usos vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens is not on the WrestleMania card, but the pieces continue to move closer together to set up an incredible tag team bout.
Jey Uso rejoined the side of brother Jimmy on Monday night. Even if there are still issues within The Bloodline, the WWE undisputed tag team champions are back together.
Zayn has set his sights on ending the heel faction but has only one ally in that fight: Rhodes. The American Nightmare cannot back him up at SoFi Stadium next month, but KO can as long as Zayn and Rhodes can convince him to do so.
This story gets better and better, and the crowd is behind it fully. This must be the WrestleMania Night 1 main event. Nothing else can compare, even the established world title feud that will certainly headline Night 2.
Whether it be Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley, Austin Theory vs. John Cena or Bianca Belair vs. Asuka, no other championship matches can compare.
WWE Dropping the Ball on Bianca Belair vs. Asuka Feud
2 of 4Bianca Belair is coming up on one year as Raw women's champion, including multiple great title defenses against the likes of Becky Lynch and Bayley. In that time, though, she has had limited interaction with Asuka.
This should have been an easy story to tell, but Raw has focused too much instead on the returning Carmella and Chelsea Green.
The Empress of Tomorrow should be establishing her new persona more strongly, while The EST of WWE should be putting over the threat Asuka poses.
This WrestleMania season has highlighted the impact of The Bloodline and little else. The women feel less important than ever before, and only Rhea Ripley has stood out by working with the men and women of the main roster.
Belair and Asuka must get past Carmella and Green next week and focus on building their own story immediately after.
Austin Theory Not Ready to Beat John Cena
3 of 4No one brings in an audience like John Cena, who more or less sold out TD Garden in Boston on Monday after announcing his appearance.
The veteran had many potential rivals for WrestleMania, but WWE chose to pair him with Austin Theory. While the United States champion has made an impact in WWE recently, he still hasn't looked like someone who can beat The Champ.
Cena may be a bigger star now than he has ever been before, and WWE cannot simply let anyone go over him. If Theory is going to claim a big win over the 16-time world champion, he must earn it.
The 45-year-old eviscerated Theory on the microphone this week, and there may be no more time left for him to appear before WrestleMania. That leaves the U.S titleholder open to proving himself in the next few weeks.
Theory may need to lose to Cena to continue rising in the long term until he can genuinely outperform someone of that magnitude.
Too Many Directionless Stars on Road to WrestleMania
4 of 4Johnny Gargano and Chad Gable picked up some surprise wins this week. The two have been regulars on Raw alongside the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, Baron Corbin, Bronson Reed, Elias and others.
However, none of them have a clear spot on the WrestleMania 39 card, and it was unnecessary to highlight them without a clear direction for The Show of Shows.
This is not to slight the talent, though. Many of them should be featured at WrestleMania, but it doesn't look like WWE Creative agrees.
Three hours of the red brand each week will inevitably lead to less necessary content, but WWE is missing out on valuable time to build stories and create fresh talent.
This Road to WrestleMania could use some spark, and these stars would welcome the spotlight given an opportunity. Gable, especially, has more than earned something better than standing on the sideline at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles next month.
