Action News 5 in Memphis, Tennessee, first reported that Lawler had suffered a stroke at his home in Fort Myers, Florida. Jim Ross followed up to say his former broadcast partner with WWE was "weak" but that the 73-year-old had a "positive" prognosis.
Dave Brown, a former Memphis meteorologist and friend of Lawler's, also spoke with the Commercial Appeal's Jason Munz to assuage fears about his situation.
"Some of the initial reports were just horrible, so I feel much better than I did 18 hours ago when I felt like I got hit in the face with a shovel," Brown said. "I was incredibly encouraged after I did a FaceTime. Jerry was alert. He talked to me. He could only say a couple words at a time, which is pretty normal. But (he) was able to move both legs and both arms."
Lawler overcame a major medical episode more than 10 years ago.
In September 2012, he was calling an episode of Raw from ringside when he experienced a heart attack in the middle of the show. Not only did he make his return to Raw, but Lawler also continued wrestling sporadically.
