Pelicans' Zion Williamson Will Miss 2023 NBA All-Star Game with Hamstring Injury
New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson will remain out through the 2023 All-Star break because of his right hamstring injury.
Per ESPN's Andrew Lopez, Pelicans head coach Willie Green said Williamson will be sidelined for the next three games and won't appear in the All-Star Game, for which he was voted a starter for the first time in his career.
Williamson has been out since Jan. 2. He had shown signs of dominance with averages of 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 60.8 percent from the field in 29 appearances.
The 22-year-old has developed a reputation for being injury-prone since he entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick in 2019. He has appeared in more than 60 games in a season just once, and he missed the 2021-22 campaign because of foot surgery and complications in his recovery.
Despite his propensity for prolonged absences, the Pelicans signed him to a five-year, $193 million contract extension in the offseason.
At 29-27, New Orleans is looking to stay afloat in the Western Conference playoff race.
While Williamson continues to miss time, players such as Herbert Jones, Naji Marshall and Jaxson Hayes will help fill the void.
