Knicks Trade Rumors: Fournier, Toppin for Beasley, Vanderbilt Discussed with Jazz
The New York Knicks have held "exploratory conversations" to acquire Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt from the Utah Jazz, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The potential deal would reportedly send Obi Toppin, Evan Fournier and draft compensation to Utah.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports also reported the two sides have discussed the framework of a deal for Beasley and Vanderbilt, although there have also been talks with the Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers regarding that duo.
Beasley and Vanderbilt could each provide a boost to the Knicks rotation as they try to lock down a playoff spot. New York entered Saturday seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 28-25 record.
Beasley, currently averaging 13.5 points per game, would provide the type of scoring depth from the perimeter the team hasn't received from Cam Reddish. Beasley is only two years removed from averaging 19.5 points per game while shooting 39.9 percent from three-point range with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020-21.
Vanderbilt has proved himself as a reliable inside presence, averaging 8.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. The 6'9" forward could add much-needed depth in the post while Mitchell Robinson remains unavailable.
The potential deal would also help the Knicks clear the Fournier's brutal deal. The 30-year-old, who has only played two of the last 12 games, is owed $18 million this year and $18.9 million next year.
Dealing Toppin would be a bigger loss for New York, but the 2020 No. 8 overall pick has fallen short of expectations in his first three seasons. He's averaging 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds off the bench this year and is unlikely to see more minutes while Julius Randle remains healthy.
