NBA Rumors: 76ers' Matisse Thybulle Discussed by Warriors Ahead of Trade Deadline
The Golden State Warriors have had "internal discussions" about a potential trade for Philadelphia 76ers guard Matisse Thybulle, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer (h/t Hoops Hype).
The Sacramento Kings have also reportedly shown interest in the defensive specialist.
NBA reporter Marc Stein first reported the Kings have been monitoring Thybulle's availability ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline.
The 25-year-old is averaging 2.7 points in 12.1 minutes per game this season.
Thybulle has seen his role decline significantly this season, with Tyrese Maxey, James Harden, De'Anthony Melton and Shake Milton ahead of him on the depth chart. With the guard set to be a restricted free agent in the offseason, the 76ers could move him now in exchange for someone who can help more this year.
The fourth-year player would still be valuable in the right location after proving himself as one of the league's best perimeter defenders.
Even in a limited role, Thybulle was recognized with a spot on the All-Defensive second team in each of the past two years. He finished the 2021-22 season ranked third in the NBA in defensive box plus-minus.
It could provide a boost for the Warriors, which rank just 16th in defensive efficiency so far this season.
After winning the NBA title last year, Golden State entered Wednesday in fifth place in the Western Conference with a 26-24 record. The team is just 2.5 games away from third, but also just three games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers in 13th place.
Adding Thybulle, who can defend multiple positions, would be a boost to the rotation and an upgrade over Moses Moody and Anthony Lamb. It could help put Golden State back on track toward title contention.
