WWE Rumors: Latest on Vince McMahon's Creative Team Involvement Ahead of Royal Rumble
Since returning to WWE's board of directors this month and getting reelected chairman of the board, Vince McMahon reportedly hasn't had any involvement with the company's creative decisions.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of ThirstyForNews.com), McMahon has not been in any creative meetings since returning.
Meltzer noted that while McMahon has been back in the WWE offices in Stamford, Connecticut, he doesn't stay nearly as late as he used to when he was the company's head of creative from 1982 until 2022.
The 77-year-old McMahon retired from his positions as WWE chairman, CEO and head of creative in July amid a WWE board of directors investigation that found he paid multiple women millions of dollars to remain silent about sexual relationships they had with him, as well as allegations of sexual misconduct in some cases.
McMahon retained his position as WWE's controlling shareholder, though, which is what allowed him to force his way back onto the board of directors earlier this month.
During a recent appearance on the Bill Simmons Podcast (h/t Jeremy Thomas of 411Mania), WWE CEO Nick Khan said the prime motivating factor behind McMahon's return was to pursue a potential sale of the company.
CNBC's Alex Sherman reported that WWE hired investment banking company JPMorgan as an adviser with an eye toward possibly selling the company in the next three to six months.
Sherman added that Comcast, Fox, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, Amazon, UFC owner Endeavor Group Holdings and Formula One owner Liberty Media are among the potential buyers.
Despite that and Khan's comments about McMahon's intentions, fans and wrestling reporters have speculated that McMahon could eventually try to force his way back into the creative circle since it was a position he held for decades.
There have been no outward indications of that happening, though, and recent booking suggests that Triple H remains fully in control.
Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp recently reported that Triple H held a talent meeting before an episode of SmackDown and reiterated to the wrestlers that nothing would change on the creative side despite McMahon's return.
Triple H did reportedly note that while it is possible he and McMahon could have discussions about creative ideas, the final say will continue to rest with him, and not McMahon.
Saturday will mark the biggest event and moment of Triple H's tenure as chief content officer, as the Royal Rumble will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and signal the start of the road to WrestleMania 39.
