Ravens' Tyler Huntley Replacing Josh Allen in 2023 Pro Bowl Because of Injury
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley is replacing Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen on the AFC squad for the 2023 Pro Bowl Games.
Huntley threw for 658 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 137 yards and one touchdown across six games for the Ravens this season in place of an injured Lamar Jackson.
Allen had to pull out of the Pro Bowl Games because of an injury.
Following the divisional-round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the 26-year-old told reporters he had been playing through an elbow issue since Week 9 of the regular season, but he doesn't expect it to require surgery and believes he just needs "rest and recovery."
"There was a period obviously right after for a few weeks where it was pretty bothersome," Allen said. "But again it didn't affect me all that much. I just kind of felt like maybe I was trying to throw it a little differently mechanically, had to change a few things and got away a little bit from how I'm used to throwing the ball."
The Wyoming product entered the year as the favorite to contend for his first NFL MVP award, and he delivered some strong play with 4,283 passing yards and 35 touchdowns while also adding 762 rushing yards and seven scores.
However, Allen also led the NFL with a total of 19 turnovers, throwing 14 interceptions and losing five fumbles.
While he wasn't forced to miss time because of his elbow injury, it likely played a part in his lackluster play in the second half of the season. He threw two or fewer touchdowns in four of the next six games following the injury.
When healthy, Allen is one of the premier talents in the NFL. Buffalo will need him at full strength if it hopes to bounce back from this season's playoff disappointment in 2023.
