No More Talking for Rex Ryan and the New York Jets After Loss to Miami Dolphins

Mike MoraitisJan 1, 2012

Well, it's official. The New York Jets are not going to the playoffs in 2011-12, and instead, it's an early exit home after losing to the Miami Dolphins in the regular-season finale.

Now, let's enjoy the silence.

The talk must stop, and once again, it has been proven that the Jets are not an elite NFL team. We got a good idea after watching them during the regular season throughout the tenure of Rex Ryan as head coach, always playing down to their opponents.

One thing New York had going for them was two consecutive AFC championship appearances, both ending in a loss. But after this loss to Matt Moore, Reggie Bush and the Dolphins, they don't even have that to cling to anymore.

It'll be interesting to see if Ryan, Bart Scott and some of the louder members of the Jets over the years will tone it down now or if the talk will continue. I've sensed a more humble tone over the course of this season as the realization struck that they weren't that good a football team.

But not even Coach Ryan imagined not making the playoffs. It's got to be worse for him than many of us can think of at this point, and that is always a humbling experience.

As for Mark Sanchez?

Another ineffective game will only increase the pressure of bringing in another quarterback. That's something that won't bode well for Sanchez. No matter what Coach Ryan says, the most important thing is winning, and if someone else can do a better job to help that, any coach would accept the opportunity.

We'll have to see if his defenders come to the rescue and blame a bad offensive line for Sanchez's struggles. Thrown in, an inept running game that ranked 22nd in yards going into Week 17.

Last, and certainly least, offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer.

His inexplicable play-calling has defined stupidity during his time in New York. To rely on Sanchez to throw 59 passes in one game is borderline insane, and as a GM, would make me want to make a change shortly after.

I honestly believe the Jets offense cannot succeed with Schottenheimer running the offense. People talk of a curse with the Schottenheimer family and the NFL. That's something they have got to rid themselves of.

Another disappointing end only brings more questions for the Jets in the coming season, waiting to see who will stay and who will go.

Can't wait!
