New York began their next drive on the 25-yard line and successfully drove to the Miami 10-yard line with help from a penalty on a late hit on Mark Sanchez. The Jets continued their drive, only to be stopped when Sanchez was intercepted on a pass to Shonn Greene. Sanchez, who looked injured on the late hit, made the tackle on the other end of the field after throwing the interception.
The Miami drive resulted in a field goal, and the Jets scored a touchdown with just under one minute remaining to give them one last chance. The Jets needed to execute an onside kick to have a chance, but it failed, essentially ending their season.
The Miami Dolphins scored 16 straight points to end the Jets season. Santonio Holmes should not have bothered flying to Miami this weekend. He finished with no catches and was benched by Rex Ryan on the final drive of the game. Holmes appeared irate in the huddle before he went back to the bench. The captain of the New York Jets sat on the bench, with no interest in the outcome of his team's season.
Jeremy Kerley showed promise for next season, catching four passes for 71 yards, running once for 16 yards and completing a bullet of a pass for 41 yards. Dustin Keller had another good game, reeling in seven catches for 45 yards and a touchdown, but it was in a losing effort.
The New York Jets finish the season with a disappointing 8-8 record. There might be many changes in store for the offseason.
