UFC 141: Fight Will Be 'Last Call' for Anthony Njokuani

Ryan RudnanskyDec 30, 2011

The preliminary bouts for UFC 141 on Friday will see Anthony Njokuani face Danny Castillo in what could be one of the best fights of the night.

Njokuani, a lanky and dangerous striker, has a 5-4 record in WEC, but he always has a chance of causing serious damage against his opponents. While his takedown skills and defense are suspect, he's scored several violent knockouts during his WEC career.

As for Castillo, only four of his 16 fights have gone to the scorecards, and he's won four of his last five fights. What separates himself from Njokuani is his wrestling and takedown skills. If he gets "The Assassin" down on the mat, it could be over in a hurry.

Three of Njokuani's five losses have come via submission, and that's no coincidence. He's a striker first and foremost and his wrestling skills and defense need work.

There is the possibility of Njokuani winning this fight, however. Castillo needs to be careful and not get careless. If he's too eager to go in for the takedown he could be on the wrong end of a vicious knockout.

In that respect, Castillo needs to fight smart in this fight. If he fights smart, he shouldn't have too much of a problem against Njokuani in my opinion. But if he's lackadaisical going for the takedown it could be over in a hurry.

In the end, I expect Castillo to fight smart, because he's simply a smart fighter. You don't go 12-4 in your MMA career without knowing what you're doing.

Either way, expect both fighters to give us a great start to UFC 141.
