Metta World Peace Video: Watch Kevin Harlan Bring Peace into Your Living Room
World Peace arrived with authority on Tuesday night. It was a welcome sight for Lakers fans.
You see, this isn't just any world peace. This is Metta World Peace—bliss on Earth may not have been greeted with as much love from the Staples Center crowd as this sublime dunk.
And it certainly would not have arrived with as much gusto from Kevin Harlan.
The glory transpired as Kobe Bryant drove and drew a double-team. He kicked out to his left to a wide open Peace standing behind the three-point line.
The player formerly known as Ron stood there and set up as a shockingly uninterested Jazz defense was struggling to come to grips with the fact that Kobe Bryant did not shoot.
After what seems like the entire 24-second shot clock, Derrick Favors closes out on Metta. At that point MWP throws a fake, puts the ball on the ground, and waltzes to his right past the leaping Favors.
No one else was watching Mr. Peace—they were still boxing out for what they thought must have been a really high-arched Kobe Bryant shot.
This left Metta a clear path to the basket, and he got off the ground like he hasn't done since he was simply known as Ron Artest, the guy you don't throw beer at.
The best part about the play was Kevin Harlan's simple but fitting call. At first, he went with the simple "Metta" that ended with an air of anticipation, as he likely thought the three-ball was on the way.
When Metta began to drive, Harlan moved on to the middle act of a three-part crescendo with "World." He then paused, and as the Lakers forward slammed it home, he added "Peace!"
Is there a better way to punctuate a violent dunk than with Peace? I think not.
At some point, this name may get old, but that point is not now. Peace out.
