Super Bowl Odds 2012: Predictions for Every Eligible Team
The National Football League regular season comes to its completion Sunday, and sports bettors are starting to gain more interest in the Super Bowl futures market.
Las Vegas bookmakers definitely scored a major victory with the Philadelphia Eagles being knocked out of playoff contention last week, while the San Francisco 49ers continue to be undervalued by the casual fan.
Let's take a closer look at the betting odds for each team that still has a chance to lift the Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 5, 2012, inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Tennessee Titans
1 of 16The Tennessee Titans need some help in order to make the playoffs, but I'm not about to gamble on a team that supplied the Indianapolis Colts their first victory this year.
A season-ending knee injury to star wide receiver Kenny Britt in Week 3 ultimately ended the team's chances of making some noise during the 2011-12 campaign.
Super Bowl Odds: 200/1
New York Jets
2 of 16Jets head coach Rex Ryan can no longer call his team the best in New York after suffering a 29-14 defeat to the Giants last week inside MetLife Stadium.
For a team built on ego—I don't think that's the best recipe for making the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl Odds: 100/1
Oakland Raiders
3 of 16The Oakland Raiders need some serious help this weekend and can only blame themselves if they fail to reach the playoffs.
Last week's 16-13 overtime win over the Kansas City Chiefs snapped a three-game losing streak, but quarterback Carson Palmer has thrown 15 interceptions in nine games.
Playing eight games without star running back Darren McFadden has taken its toll.
Winning the Super Bowl is out of the question due to the amount of penalties this franchise racks up on a consistent basis.
Super Bowl Odds: 80/1
Cincinnati Bengals
4 of 16The Cincinnati Bengals control their own destiny in reaching the AFC playoffs and will seek revenge from a 31-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens as seven-point road underdogs on Nov. 20.
Something tells me that the NFL doesn't want to have three teams from the AFC North division represented in the postseason.
That could be great news for the Jets, Raiders or Titans.
Super Bowl Odds: 80/1
Denver Broncos
5 of 16Suddenly, the Denver Broncos two-game losing streak has fans on pins and needles in the Mile High City.
Quarterback Tim Tebow will need to rebound from last week's disastrous performance against the Buffalo Bills, as the team only needs to register a victory against the Kansas City Chiefs at home this Sunday to reach the postseason.
This AFC West showdown should be great theater, especially with former Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton playing for the other side.
Super Bowl Odds: 50/1
Houston Texans
6 of 16The Houston Texans' betting odds to win the Super Bowl have plummeted after suffering back-to-back losses, but I wouldn't fall asleep on this team.
Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will be back on the sidelines after missing the past two weeks, while wide receiver Andre Johnson is hoping to be fully recovered from a hamstring injury.
Possessing the league's No. 2 defense that allows just 280.7 yards per game is a dangerous commodity in the playoffs.
Super Bowl Odds: 40/1
Dallas Cowboys
7 of 16The Dallas Cowboys provide some serious value in this category if you believe they will come out with a victory against the New York Giants Sunday.
Quarterback Tony Romo is expected to play this week with an injured throwing hand, but it won't be enough.
It's amazing that this franchise will be watching the playoffs from home in 2012.
Super Bowl Odds: 35/1
Atlanta Falcons
8 of 16The Atlanta Falcons were swept by the New Orleans Saints in their two meetings this year, including a 45-16 blowout loss as 6.5-point road underdogs on last week's Monday Night Football.
Definitely a team to watch during the 2012 season, but I'm not buying a squad that failed to deliver as a No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs a year ago.
Super Bowl Odds: 30/1
New York Giants
9 of 16The New York Giants are always dangerous due to the play of Eli Manning under center and their defensive line getting after opposing quarterbacks.
A great price at the current betting odds if you have them getting past the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Ranking last in the league in rushing will catch up to this franchise down the road.
Super Bowl Odds: 25/1
Detroit Lions
10 of 16The Detroit Lions would be a major player in this article if they held home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, especially with the Super Bowl being played inside a dome.
Fans in the Motor City will have a lot to cheer for in 2012 and beyond with a young nucleus in tow.
Super Bowl Odds: 25/1
San Francisco 49ers
11 of 16The San Francisco 49ers have seen their betting odds rise over the past two weeks, mainly due to the emergence of the New Orleans Saints as the clear second choice in the NFC race.
First-year head coach Jim Harbaugh will try to win the war in the trenches, possessing the league's No. 7 rushing offense and No. 1 rushing defense.
The 49ers will need to keep the score in the 20s against the Green Bay Packers or New Orleans Saints to have a chance.
Super Bowl Odds: 12/1
Pittsburgh Steelers
12 of 16The Pittsburgh Steelers are always dangerous come playoff time and would love another shot at the Baltimore Ravens.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger should stay off his ankle this week and let the league's No. 1 defense handle the Cleveland Browns.
Playing the Ravens on any field isn't a major concern—facing a revenge-minded New England Patriots in Foxborough is a different story.
Super Bowl Odds: 12/1
Baltimore Ravens
13 of 16The Baltimore Ravens are hoping to lock up at least the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs with a victory against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.
New England is likely to gain home-field advantage in hosting the Buffalo Bills Sunday.
Getting the ball to running back Ray Rice is a top priority during the playoffs, as quarterback Joe Flacco seems to disappear in big moments.
Super Bowl Odds: 10/1
New Orleans Saints
14 of 16The New Orleans Saints have been my pick to win it all since I started writing these articles and nothing has changed.
Quarterback Drew Brees leads an offense that's averaging an NFL-high 457.1 yards per game, while ranking second in scoring 33.5 points per game.
I'm a little concerned that the Saints may need to win two road games to reach Indianapolis, as I was hoping they'd gain at least the No. 2 seed.
Not suggesting a play at this price.
Super Bowl Odds: 9/2
New England Patriots
15 of 16The New England Patriots need home-field advantage more than any other team in the NFL, especially when possessing the league's worst defense.
Quarterback Tom Brady will need to be spectacular in the playoffs, as he'll likely face some of the best stop units in the league.
Clearly the betting public's favorite to represent the AFC.
Super Bowl Odds: 4/1
Green Bay Packers
16 of 16The price on the Green Bay Packers has actually gone up over the past two weeks, mainly due to the play of the New Orleans Saints.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will not have to leave Wisconsin until a potential trip to Indianapolis in February.
It's very tough to repeat as champions in the NFL, which has me looking elsewhere (New Orleans Saints).
Super Bowl Odds: 9/5
