Free Pick from Doc’s Sports. Take New York Yankees at Tampa Bay (7 pm ET) - There’s nothing creative about betting on the Yankees, but even the evil empire can offer value from time to time. The Rays are 2-1, but I’m not at all impressed. They have two narrow wins and a loss at home against the Orioles - a team they should outclass badly. I think that the Rays are a legitimate contender, but they aren’t firing on all cylinders just yet. The Yankees have been far more impressive, with two wins in Boston, and still a lot of runs scored in their loss. They are clearly in better form. They also have an edge in pitching. Javier Vazquez is coming off the best year of his career, and is a reliable veteran who has already played a year with the Yankees before, so there won’t be pressure from playing in this circumstance. David Price is fantastically talented, and he has pitched against the Yankees three times before, but he’s still only 24, and the Yankees are hitting like crazy right now - 5.3 runs per game - and it’s going to be much harder for him to stand up to that than it will be for Vazquez to handle this Rays team as they are playing now. The Yankees should be favored by much more, so there is nice value here.
