Come To Think of It: Chicago Bulls' Best Revenge Would Be To Beat the Celtics

Bob WarjaApr 30, 2009

I have heard the voices of outraged Bulls fans who, in the wake of Rajon Rondo's flagrant foul that wasn't, are suggesting that the Bulls retaliate.

You know, an eye for an eye.

Well, I say that's pure, unadulterated stupidity. Sure, I wrote an article immediately following Game Five saying that the Bulls were swindled by the referees.

Maybe it wasn't a flagrant foul according to the strict interpretations of the rules, but it looked to be more flagrant than the one called on Miami's Dwyane Wade against Atlanta Wednesday night.

But even recognizing that, I just don't see what good it would do to try to get even with the Celtics by attempting to take down one of their players.

You know what the best way to get even is?

Just win the game, baby.

When Michael Jordan's Bulls were getting beat down by the Detroit Pistons before the championship years, you never heard MJ say that someone on his team needed to punch Bill Laimbeer in the mouth.

He said that his squad needed to beat their opponents, and eventually they did.

And the Bulls got the last laugh when the Pistons walked off the court refusing to shake hands with the winners. It made Detroit look like little babies.

Now that's revenge, my friends.

Look, unnecessarily hard fouls on Rondo won't win the game for the Bulls.

Here's a better idea than headhunting: play defense. Stop the C's from scoring at will. Win Game Six to send the series back to Boston.

That may not be the macho solution, but I guarantee you it will hurt the Celtics more than anything else.

The defending champs already know they're in a series. So why not finish the job?

Just don't do anything stupid, come to think of it.
