Tony D'Angelo Returns to Confirm He Will Fight Naraku at Great American Bash

Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett hyped up Great American Bash with an announce table once again broken in front of them.

This included an announcement that Kevin Owens and Busted Open Radio's David LaGreca would host a Tailgate Party for GAB.

Robert Stone announced that he would have an NXT Championship match at Great American Bash, no matter what.

He called out Naraku, who demanded that Stone hand him the championship if Tony D'Angelo could not defend it.

Mason Rook arrived to say he would take D'Angelo's place in the NXT Championship if the champion could not compete.

The Vanity Project arrived to demand their own shot at the NXT Championship, causing Rook to brawl with Jackson Drake.

Stone revealed that there would be no replacement as D'Angelo arrived with a bandaged right eye. He sent Naraku out of the ring and stood with his NXT Championship to end the show.

This was a quick attempt to heat up this rivalry, and it worked well enough. However, Naraku is going to need to deliver more "evil" at GAB to sell himself as the man that can dethrone D'Angelo.

The Culling vs. DVD and Legacy - Part 2

Shawn Spears tried to keep the momentum back from break, but the athleticism of Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux began to turn things sour.

Dux caught Spears with a Double Jump Moonsault for a near-fall, saved by Niko.

Niko saved Spears again after a blind tag from Legacy and set up a double team for the near-fall.

Legacy and DVD finally sent Niko to the floor, isolating Spears for a Legacy 450 and Dux Shooting Star Press for the victory.

Winners: Dorian Van Dux and Sean Legacy

Afterward, Niko Clotheslined Spears than sent him through the announce table with a Chokeslam as Izzi just shook her head.

It looks like this is the end of Spears in The Culling, and that is for the best. This tag team match was solid but mainly relied on the wild athleticism of the new team.

The Culling vs. Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux

Shawn Spears and Niko Vance remained in the ring after Izzi Dame's loss, clearly still dealing with the tension.

Dorian Van Dux and Sean Legacy came out separately with different vibes to their entrances, showing they were not a true team yet.

The in-ring chemistry of Dux and Legacy showed out early though as they utilized a quick tag to quickly push the pace.

Spears managed to save Niko from a Double Suplex and Dropkick Dux to the floor, allowing The Culling to pose together into the commercial break.

NXT Origin with Alexa Bliss/Jaida Parker Still Struggling with Nattie Loss

In an NXT Origin, Alexa Bliss talked about how her time in NXT made her the star that she has become.

Nikkita Lyons and Karmen Petrovic watched a video of Nattie receiving the Guinness World Record for most submissions in WWE history.

They both then mocked a quiet Jaida Parker, still hurting from her loss last week.

OTM arrived to check in on Ms. Parker, who walked out dispirited.

While they both agreed Jaida would be all right, Lucien Price did question Bronco Nima about his AAA appearance in the newly re-established Los Perros del Mal.

Nima promised he was just doing what was needed for his family, and OTM had no problems.

This was a nice acknowledgement that what happens in AAA could affect NXT as well.

Women's Speed Tournament Final: Izzi Dame vs. Arianna Grace

Izzi Dame immediately hit Arianna Grace with a Big Boot at the bell and tried to keep the pressure on Grace.

The BirthRight star fought back, battling through the pain, but she could not find a way to keep the pressure on The Culling star.

Another Big Boot from Dame set up the finish, but Shawn Spears wanted a high five from Dame.

When Dame acquiesced, Grace caught Dame with a Small Package for the three count.

Winner and new No. 1 contender to the Women's Speed Championship: Arianna Grace

Wren Sinclair arrived to stare down Grace while Dame and Niko Vance glared at Spears.

This was a match that barely got started ended with a nonsensical finish where Spears could not have come with a worse way to cost Dame.

In his office, Robert Stone announced that AAA was sending luchadors to Great American Bash while the general manager was still figuring out Naraku's GAB opponent.

Jackson Drake and The Vanity Project arrived to talk about their future opportunities, and Drake grabbed the NXT Championship, offering his help for GAB title match.

Carver vs. Prosper - Part 2

Coming out of the break, Keanu Carver threw EK Prosper with a German Suplex, but he spent too much time mocking Prosper.

This encourage Prosper to fire back with a Dropkick, but once again, Carver cut him off with a Clothesline.

Prosper refused to quit, landing a Diving Leg Drop for a near-fall. He went for a Moonsault but Pounced nearly out of the ring.

As Carver tried to lift Prosper to finish it, Prosper reversed the grip into a pin for the three count and shock win.

Winner: EK Prosper

Carver did not let Prosper celebrate. He laid him out with a Clothesline from behind followed by a Powerbomb through the announce table.

Wade Barrett delightfully sold his terror by cowering up onto the barricade behind the announce table.

This was a great David vs. Goliath sprint where Carver and Prosper fully sold themselves as potential long-term NXT rivals.

While neither has build the same credibility yet, it gave shades of Oba Femi vs. Je'Von Evans, though this time around it was the cocky giant that fell prey to the high-flying underdog.

In a pre-tape challenge, Zaria told Tatum Paxley that she would help her revel in her addiction to pain in a Women's North American Championship rematch at Great American Bash.

Backstage, Robert Stone questioned the actions of Naraku and Carver. Carver promised Prosper was only his first victim on the path to the NXT Championship.

Keanu Carver vs. EK Prosper

EK Prosper tried to push the pace early in this contest, but Keanu Carver kept punishing him with powerful precision.

Vic Joseph hyped up the early success of Carver, including his dominant showing against Joe Hendry and almost winning the NXT Championship in his first match.

After getting thrown around the ring for several minutes, Prosper tried to dive onto Carver outside, who knocked him down with a strong forearm strike.

As the referee checked on Prosper, Carver stood menacingly over him into the PIP break.

Lola Vice and Kendal Grey Sign the Contract for Their NXT Women's Championship Match

Vic Joseph hyped up the potential for fans to buy a spot to be named on the ring for Saturday Night's Main Event, promising even more ring clutter on the main roster.

NXT showed video of Tony D'Angelo receiving medical support at First Response Memorial Hospital.

Robert Stone met Lola Vice and Kendal Grey in a private room, hoping to guarantee at least one of his top title matches after the D'Angelo injury.

Vice told Grey that she had her figured out and refused to be passed by the "future" since she was "not done" yet.

The tension in the room sold that these former friends were no longer speaking as allies but opponents with the NXT Women's Championship on the line.

Hyping a "double contract signing" for the night only for everyone to sign their contracts backstage an hour into the show was odd marketing.

Hank and Tank vs. BirthRight - Part 2

Out of the break, Hank Walker was once again isolated by BirthRight, but Hank's hard strikes helped him break free into the Tank Ledger hot tag.

Tank knocked Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo and Uriah Connors out of the ring and hit both with a Cannonball off the apron.

Hank and Tank laid out Connors with a Double Faceplant, but Stacks broke up the pin and nearly set up Connors to stack Hank up for the win.

A blind tag by Stacks set up a Cutter and Frog Splash combination from BirthRight for the near-fall.

Matt Mathews tried to encourage Hank and Tank until Lexis King and Charlie Dempsey tried to lay him out. He dodged, sending them crashing into one another.

Hank and Tank then hit an Avalanche Sandwich and Honk Honk for the victory.

Winners: Hank and Tank

NXT's tag team division is underdeveloped but shows promise in moments like this. Both teams showed out and made their cases as reliable future title challengers.

Mathews' involvement was mostly painless, but NXT could do with less of random comedians embarrassing current champions.

Backstage, Shiloh Hill promised to get more revenge against Tristan Angels at Great American Bash followed by his signature laugh.

Hank and Tank vs. BirthRight

BirthRight used their ringside numbers to distract the referee right off the bat, allowing Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo and Uriah Connors to isolate Hank Walker.

Tank Ledger rallied Hank and got the hot tag to push the pace, utilizing his power advantage to take out both BirthRight members.

At ringside, Arianna Grace, Charlie Dempsey and Lexis King began arguing with Matt Mathews.

Mathews tried to stay out of it but distracted Stacks and Connors enough for Hank and Tank to fly out onto BirthRight to keep building momentum into the commercial break.

Matt Mathews Prepares with Hank and Tank/Myles Borne and Tavion Heights in an NXT Spotlight

Matt Mathews spoke with Hank Walker and Tank Ledger backstage, promising to help them as best he could.

In an NXT Spotlight, Myles Borne and Tavion Heights talked about their history while both promised victory at Great American Bash.

Oddly, it was Heights that came off more as the face, selling that he felt forgotten by Borne, who said he had outgrown NQCC and his friendship with Heights.

After the video, Wren Sinclair tried to reason with Heights backstage, who admitted not having a championship made it harder to be left behind by his friend.

Kendal Grey then talked to Wren about her the Women's Speed Tournament final. The champion said the finals were a toss up, but she was ready for either woman.

Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox Meet Face-to-Face

The show came back from commercial showing that Tony D'Angelo was loaded into an ambulance after the fireball.

Saquon Shugars told Dion Lennox that he learned from the first attack by DarkState, refusing to be caught lacking anymore.

He took out Osiris Griffin and Cutler James to make sure he got a fair fight with the "head of the snake", knowing he was the better "wrestler" than Lennox.

Lennox said that DarkState was moving past Shugars while Shugars made clear that DarkState did not exist without him.

Shugars delivered his final bar: "I'm up next. You up never, and it don't get no sweeter than that."

Lennox responded, calling out the hesitations of Shugars that cause DarkState so many problems.

He finished off the segment with his own final line: "Your name is already signed on your death warrant, and, on Sunday, I stamp it."

This was better than most of the build-up to this match, allowing both men to shine on the mic.

While Shugars was better, Lennox proved why he is in his spot as Shugars' foil.

Rourke (c) vs. Angels - Part 2

Commentary continued to put over Evolve as a stepping stone spot from the independent scene before arriving in NXT.

Rourke started to show out with his athleticism, kicking around Angels and knocking him around.

Rourke knocked down the Mr. NXT sash, and when Angels tried to pick it back up, Shiloh Hill pulled him under the ring.

Rourke caught Angels with a Spinning Big Boot and Molly Go Round for the victory, retain his gold.

Winner and still Evolve men's champion: Aaron Rourke

This was a decent match, but Angels was overly protected by Hill's interference, not allowing Rourke to show out.

Throughout the match, NXT showed Naraku arriving in the parking lot, soon met by Tony D'Angelo.

Robert Stone tried to ease tensions, but when Naraku handed D'Angelo the contract, it hid a fireball that blinded the champion.

Evolve Men's Championship: Aaron Rourke (c) vs. Tristan Angels

Wade Barrett joined commentary for the night with Vic Joseph and immediately complimented Tristan Angels with the quote, "I like highly attractive men!".

Joseph also continued to hype Evolve by reminding fans that the winner of this match would defend the championship against Max Abrams on Wednesday.

Rourke made an immediate impression in his NXT debut with a flashy coat and dance for his championship entrance.

Angels took early control of the action but lost his focus when the lights went low and Shiloh Hill's laugh echoed through the arena.

Angels was able to fight back though and lay out Rourke on the outside of the ring, standing above him on the steel steps with his stolen Mr. NXT sash into the first Picture-in-Picture break.

NXT is Live!

Tony D'Angelo opened the show backstage with Robert Stone, talking about Great American Bash and why Naraku had not signed the contract yet.

The NXT champion saw Men's Evolve champion Aaron Rourke heading to the ring and gave him props for his hard work.
