HT - Australia 1, Turkiye 0

The nightcap of a jam-packed Saturday slate of World Cup games, Australia and Turkiye's battle is taking place with a backdrop of shocking lineup decisions.
For Australia, manager Tony Popovic elected to leave veteran Matthew Ryan on the bench, instead opting to start Patrick Beach in his first competitive game between the sticks. In central midfield, Jackson Irvine has been relegated to the bench. For Turkiye, the surprise is that Kenan Yildiz, the rising Juventus star, is among the reserves. Whatever the reason for Yildiz's exclusion, his absence has seemed to blunt Vincenzo Montella's attack. Things were fairly one-dimensional for Turkiye, who have been trying to stack numbers through the middle of their possession setup.
On the field, Turkiye have dominated the ball so far at BC Place. Still, it was Australia who opened the scoring through left winger Nestory Irankunda on a lightning quick attack. With Australia focusing on compressing space in their 5-4-1 defensive block, they had a handful of moments to hit on the break after winning the ball inside their own half.
Will Australia hold their lead in the second half? We'll find out shortly.
