Ronaldo has already submitted himself as a legend on the international stage, as he is the all-time leader in appearances (226) and goals (143) for a men's national team.
He's also one of the most decorated players in World Cup history, as he's the only player to have scored in five different World Cups. He's looking to extend that record to six this year.
The only thing missing from Ronaldo's career is a World Cup title, and he'll look to change that this year.
Basic logic would lead most to conclude that this will be Ronaldo's last World Cup, considering he's 41 years old, but that might not be the case. Portugal coach Roberto Martinez said last month that he isn't counting out the star in 2030.
"I have worked with many players that have won a Champions League or a Ballon d'Or and the next day they lose their appetite," Martinezย said. "What we have with Ronaldo is an example of a different mentality.
"I believe that having that goal is what allows for longevity. Of course, there is a genetic aspect, the work he puts in -- he uses everything that can help his body --- and his mentality."
Ronaldo and Portugal will begin World Cup action on Wednesday against Congo DR.
