Reasons Why The Clemens/ McNamee Hearing Was Useless

Hao ChinkFeb 18, 2008

Pitcher Roger Clemens' ex-trainer Brian McNamee has recently shocked the baseball world to it's very core with his allegations of steroid use by Clemens on more than one occasion.

To an outside spectator who has no knowledge of the Mitchell Report this would seem like a baseball issue.

However, Major League Baseball's commissioner issued the 20 month investigation, which was released on December 13, 2007.

In response to the accusations, Roger Clemens did anything he could in order to discredit McNamee's accusations.

He made an appearance on CBS' 60 Minutes, recorded a phone conversation with Brian McNamee in an attempt to get McNamee to admit that he lied, but to no avail.Clemens even held a press conference declaring his innocence.

He was forced to sit through an almost five hour hearing where he gave testimony regarding Brian McNamee's prior statements, and his friend Andy Pettitte's admission of Clemens telling him that he had used performance enhancing drugs.

Even with all of the testimonies made under oath, the hearing that took place on Wednesday February 13 can be characterized as nothing more than frivolous. Here are some reasons why no one should place stock in this hearing:

1. The question, "Who do you believe?" is still around, if this were decisive there would no longer be questions, only answers.

2. The hearing turned into a partisan affair; the Republicans were loyal to the Texas born, flag waving Republican, and the Democrats were loyal to the New York born, pro-choice Democrat.

3. THIS WAS NOT A COURT OF LAW

4. The inclusion of the so-called physical evidence, including bloody gauze and used syringes, means nothing—Does McNamee also have the pants that Clemens supposedly bled through the bottom of?

For all we know, the gauze and syringes could just be from a time when McNamee decided it would be fun to go around New York City and prick people. If McNamee actually kept these things for eight years, than he needs to seek professional help.

5. Most of the questions meant nothing in the grand scheme—how does Roger Clemens not being a vegetarian matter? And by the way, Roger, it's okay, there are only a few people who know what a vegan is.

6. Was anybody actually persuaded one way or another based on these depositions?

7. Neither McNamee nor Clemens were given time to state reasons for their response to the congressional committees' questions.

8. Congress should not be included in an investigation into baseball, they are in over their heads.

9. This hearing was not supposed to be about Roger Clemens or Brian McNamee, but that is what it turned into.

10. The most important reason as to why nobody should pay too much attention to this hearing: THEY ALL LIED!!!
