Michigan Recruiting: Bowl Ban Won't Save Wolverines from Urban Meyer
Michigan fans who are buying into the notion that Ohio State losing nine scholarships over the course of the next three years and sustaining a one-year bowl ban will cause Ohio State to lose recruits are kidding themselves.
Urban Meyer's effect was felt immediately at Ohio State. Five-star recruit Noah Spence signing with the Buckeyes proves that not only does Ohio State have a chance to match the level of recruiting they saw against Jim Tressel, they've got a serious shot at improving upon it.
Michigan isn't hurting in the recruiting department, but when the wheels were falling apart, it looked like the Wolverines were going to be able to capitalize and set the standard for Big Ten recruiting.
Penn State's scandal made the Ohio State sanctions seem trivial, and the university's ability to bring in Meyer sent the school's stock through the roof.
Meyer believes in the university and his willingness to assume the head coaching position despite the punishment coming forth has to be comforting for recruits who will be asked to do the same.
Ohio State is the place to be in the Big Ten right now, and it's safe to say that Ohio State's slap on the wrist isn't prompting any team to sleep on the university.
This mild punishment is nothing compared to the sanctions levied upon USC. Ohio State is going to survive this ban and emerge unscathed.
Anyone who was hoping to gain an edge from Ohio State's predicament has to be sorely disappointed with the university's resolve and ability to weather the storm.
