Robert Griffin III: Why the Washington Redskins Should Draft Heisman-Winning QB
Remember last year when Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles shredded the Washington Redskins defense and embarrassed them on national TV? I can even remember a younger, less-paunchy Donovan McNabb destroying my beloved 'Skins. Who could forget "The Sheriff" Stanley Richards getting posterized by McNabb?
That's what the Redskins have been missing the last 20 years. Sure, they've had a few decent quarterbacks over the years, but they haven't had a game-changer or anything more than a game manager since Sonny Jurgensen.
Coach Mike Shanahan knows this. That's why he outlandishly traded two high-round draft picks for the portly, washed-up Donovan McNabb. It's why against our better judgement, he tried to convince us that John Beck could be a franchise QB.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
RG3, Andrew Luck and Matt Barkley will all probably turn out to be good, if not serviceable, quarterbacks. But Luck and Barkley would slit the throats of their three best linemen to possess the type of athletic ability Griffin seems to show effortlessly.
Now, it's not like Griffin is just some scrambling quarterback. He has thrown for over 3,500 yards each of the last two seasons, while completing over 65 percent of his passes in those years, not to mention having a 74.1 percent completion rate this past year.
Additionally, anybody who witnessed his last-second TD pass into double coverage against Oklahoma will know I write the truth.
There's also one intangible quality that makes a great NFL QB, and that's leadership. There are three types of leaders: Leaders that talk, leaders that do, and leaders that do both. I'm not going to speak on the leadership abilities of RG3, Barkley or Luck because, frankly, I don't know. But I'll say this, anybody who has ever stepped on a football gridiron will tell you that when you play with a player as creative and dynamic as Griffin, you always feel like you can win. This is what the Redskins lack.
Until the Redskins can shore up the inconsistent offensive line play, they will need a QB that can make something out of nothing.
I've seen the Redskins work a whole lot of magic to get players like Albert Haynesworth and Donovan McNabb. Here's to hoping they have one more trick in the bag.
