MLB Rumors: New York Mets Trying to Attract New Partners with a Ridiculous Offer
To add to the joke that has become the Fred Wilpon-run New York Mets, the team has now released a new ownership package that gives fans the chance to own a piece of the team for just $20 million.
So just what does this four percent stake and dream package include that is worth that much money?
1. Access to Mr. Met: I could probably buy a ticket in the nose-bleeds and hang out with him somewhere in the stadium. How often do I need to hang out with Mr. Met?

2. A business card with the title "owner" on it: The business card I could probably create for free on the Internet and put the Mets' logo on it, put my name on it and type "owner" underneath.
3. Owner's workout day: I don't workout. That's why I'm an owner, not a player.
4. A parking spot: I'd rather pay the parking meter outside the stadium and walk to the ballpark, it's cheaper.
5. A chance to throw out the first pitch at a game each year: Isn't there a FREE contest for that?
6. Assignment of a team executive to take care of "owner's" needs, including season tickets: Sounds nice, but they don't actually PAY for the tickets, so I still have to buy my own tickets for the actual games $20 million later.
Real question is: if I don't buy tickets, does Mr. Met come to my house so I can still hang out with him?
What a joke. Great deal, huh?
This further proves the ineptitude of the Mets' ownership, thinking logical prospective buyers will even consider that this is close to a good deal. You get to buy into a franchise that can't get out of it's own way and will eventually self-destruct under bone-head, "majority" ownership.
Is this the most they could offer for $20 million? Good luck.
The Wilpons had better hope their prospective buyers are a bunch of 12-year-olds who have an affinity to meet Mr. Met.
If you're looking to buy a professional sports team, just wait another five years and you may be able to buy the Mets for less than $20 million.
