Bulls Rumors: Chicago Would Be Wise to Revisit Dwight Howard Trade Talk

Andrew KulhaDec 18, 2011

The Chicago Bulls need to re-explore the possible trade scenario that would bring in current Orlando Magic superstar center Dwight Howard to the Windy City.

To be frank, if I'm a Bulls fan I would be livid about the fact that those talks have died down.

Now, it may be a case of the old adage "No news is good news," but in this day and age of sports and media coverage I don't see how that is possible.

If there is a trade or possible trade going down in sports everybody and their mother knows about it before the players themselves even hear about it. This is the sports world that we live in with Twitter, Facebook and high-octane digital media ruling the landscape.

Some say that the Bulls are fine where they are at, but I firmly believe that if the Bulls have the pieces to get a superstar like Howard to put along their own star point guard Derrick Rose, they must do so.

A week ago Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com broke a report that the Bulls were potentially interested in throwing their hats into the Dwight Howard ring:

"

The Bulls believe they have enough young pieces to complete a trade for the perennial All-Star. They will have conversations in the coming days with Magic GM Otis Smith about putting together a package for the talented big man, according to a league source.

Howard told the media on Saturday he has formally asked to be traded.

"

If this rumor is indeed true, the Bulls need to do everything they can to bring Howard into the fold.

Can you imagine the core they would have with Rose running point and Howard patrolling the middle?

Sure, they would have to give up a king's ransom for him, but the combination alone would be worth it.

Last year Rose averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds a game. Couple that with the 22.9 points 14.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game from Howard, and they would easily be the best tag-team in the league.

The Bulls would be a threat from both the perimeter and the paint, and would have two solid bookends on defense as well.

Factor in a guy like Richard Hamilton (who averaged 14.1 points per game last season), and a few other role and bench players, and the Bulls would be more than able to compete in the Eastern Conference.

It all makes too much sense for the Bulls to deny, and they need to at least continue exploring the possibility.

They have the young pieces that Orlando could use, and they are a big market with an established star player, which is something Howard is looking for.

Obviously this is all speculation, but if I were the Bulls I'd do anything I could to bring this possible trade back on the map.
