John Cena WWE: Power Ranking Matches Cena Could Impact on TLC Card
John Cena is not scheduled to be a part of the WWE's final pay-per-view of the year. Something about that just doesn't sound right. This is pro wrestling, so what is scheduled doesn't have to be what will happen tonight at the actual event.
Cena could easily make an appearance via promo, match interference, surprise announcer—anything to get the games' biggest star involved.
There are angles where Cena could feasibly be included. This is a power-ranking of the six matches scheduled, placed in order of the likelihood Cena could make his presence felt.
6. Cody Rhodes vs. Booker T for the Intercontinental Championship
1 of 6This wouldn't be a ridiculous spot for Cena, but Booker T has made it clear, he will not be in the ring for the long haul.
Cody Rhodes would be a decent fit for a feud with Cena, except Rhodes is only the Intercontinental champion. It would have to result in costing Cody the belt. That would mean Booker T would be the title-holder, and that isn't going to happen.
No chance Cena appears here.
5. Mark Henry (c) vs. Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship
2 of 6The WWE seems to be enamored with the big-man on big-man feuds, even to the distaste of its fans that prefer more action-packed matches.
It is unlikely Cena would get involved in this match, in any way. At this point in the careers of all involved, it just doesn't make sense.
A feud with Cena and Mark Henry doesn't seem likely. This would seem like a spot for the newly re-masked Kane to possibly setup a triple-threat cage match between the three at the next pay-per-view.
The chances Cena makes an appearance here is slim to none.
4. Triple H vs. Kevin Nash in Sledgehammer Ladder Match
3 of 6Cena and Triple H's paths have crossed in the past, but with Triple H's career in the ring possibly coming to an end, it doesn't seem likely. Kevin Nash will not be a permanent or long-standing in ring presence either.
In addition to that, this match already has plenty going on with the compound theme of sledgehammers and ladders.
You would generally expect some unexpected interference to take place in a match with a less complex theme.
The chances that Cena appears here is only higher than the previous match because of his history with Triple H.
3. Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett in a Tables Match
4 of 6Randy Orton is probably going to be done with his assistance in the push for Wade Barrett. He'll likely drop this match.
Could it be because of something he can attribute to Cena?
Now we're getting into the realm of real possibility. It has been three years since the Cena-Orton feud was at its peak. Could the WWE be planning to revisit that?
Orton and Barrett doesn't have any long-standing appeal in my opinion; Cena and Orton is like old faithful.
There is a moderate chance this could be the spot, if any.
2. Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Zack Ryder for the United States Championship
5 of 6There has been talk that Cena could appear as a special guest referee in this match. It could happen easily, as Cena could begin a feud with Dolph Ziggler.
Ryder and Triple H were recently tag-team partners against the Awesome Truth, and it could be easily be manipulated to engineer a proposed angle where Ziggler says Cena cost him the US title.
The only thing that makes me doubt this is the lack of clout around the championship involved. Still, Cena could be putting in work to push the younger stars.
1. CM Punk (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. the Miz in a Triple-Threat Title Match
6 of 6This is the spot, if any, for Cena to appear. The WWE could expand the main-event to a Fatal-Four Way, and add some mega star power to the match. It would also put Cena in the ring with The Miz, whom he has feuded with recently as well.
Primarily, this is the most likely spot because it's the main event. Cena should be involved, and it should be in the grandest fashion.
Come on, WWE matchmakers—make it happen.
