Mark Ingram Injury: Saints Offense Won't Miss Rookie RB vs. Terrible Vikings

Nicholas GossDec 16, 2011

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense won't miss rookie running back Mark Ingram on Sunday because the Minnesota Vikings defend the pass so poorly.

Brees, who is arguably the NFL MVP, will obliterate the weak Vikings defense and take another step closer to breaking Dan Marino's all time record for passing yards in a single season with 5,084.

Ingram's turf toe injury caused him to miss last week's game against the Tennessee Titans, and will keep him out this week as well.

There is absolutely no need to rush Ingram back from injury considering the Saints have already clinched a playoff berth.

New Orleans will need Ingram in the playoffs, where a strong running game is needed to win against the elite teams.

His impressive running this season has helped give the Saints a nice balance on offense despite the team relying primarily on the right arm of Brees.

Ingram leads the Saints in rushing with 474 yards, and has added five touchdowns. As a team, New Orleans ranks eighth in the NFL with 122.6 rushing yards per game.

The Vikings are 2-11 this season and have struggled to defend the pass with any consistency. They have allowed 248.8 yards through the air per game this season, which ranks 26th in the league.

Against top tier quarterbacks this season, the Vikings have been terrible. For example, they allowed 585 yards and seven touchdowns to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in two games, and 605 yards and four touchdowns to Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford in two games.

Brees will have no problem at all carving up this defense, and despite the loss of Ingram, the Saints will put up a ton of points against the Vikings in another convincing victory.

The primary concern for the Saints is getting Ingram back to full health for January, because the team is a real Super Bowl contender and the biggest threat to the Packers' dreams of a repeat title and a perfect season.
