WWE TLC: 5 Most Disappointing Moments in TLC Match History

Justin WatryDec 16, 2011

WWE TLC is now only two days away! This Sunday is sure to be a great event to close 2011 for the entire WWE Universe. However, I must continue my look back at past TLC matches.

We all know how amazing the setting can be. We all know how spectacular some of the moves look. Sadly, sometimes things do not go as well as you'd like.

Here are my top five disappointing TLC moments in WWE history.

Note: I will not be mentioning anything related to the third TLC match going forward with the list. Thanks!

5. Summerslam 2000 Ending

1 of 5

I really liked Edge and Christian as a team. Their run was one of the best ever. The Dudley Boys were also a good tag team to throw in the mix every now and then.

Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy losing at Summerslam 2000 was disappointing. You can only have that "hometown" feel once in a blue moon. Yes, it was only their home state, but you get the idea. When you are given a golden opportunity, you have to take it!

Edge and Christian retained on this night, only to lose the tag straps a month later...to the Hardys.

4. No Stipulation Added

I really enjoyed Summerslam 2009. I remember that day very fondly (not for the show), so it will be stuck in my mind for many years. However, the WWE event was particularly engaging on this night.

The one thing that bothered me was the main event. Everybody knew Jeff Hardy was leaving. It was pretty clear that CM Punk was leaving as the World Champion. Why not end their great feud on a huge note at Summerslam?

Instead, it was a normal TLC. Then on the next Smackdown on free television, Jeff Hardy lost in a "Loser Leaves WWE" cage match. He said his goodbye after the match and hasn't been back since.

I am not big into "fantasy booking," but ending his career at Summerslam would have been fitting. Follow that up by hyping a "Farewell Speech" on Smackdown, and you have the exact same story play out.

3. WWE TLC 2010 Change

3 of 5

For those that don't know, I really like one-on-one feuds in wrestling. I am not a fan of four-ways or even triple threat matches too often. You can do them, but I like one-on-one matches much better.

Back in late 2010, Edge and Kane were ready to end their feud at TLC. Also, Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio were about to close their long feud. Both were set to be singles matches at the PPV event.

What happened? Last minute, they were thrown together in a four-way TLC match.

Yes, the match was good. Yes, Edge got his big moment. However, it just didn't pay off each feud as it should have. Instead, each feud was dragged out another few weeks on Smackdown...

2. Scary TLC II Moment

4 of 5

Yes, Jeff Hardy likes to steal the show.

Yes, everybody in that match wanted to put on an amazing show.

Yes, they all wanted to pull out all the stops to leave their mark on this industry.

I am sorry. Watching Jeff Hardy walk across a few ladders set up in the ring was way too much. I respect him for trying that stunt, but it was beyond frightening to watch. I think even he realized that, once it started to fail.

I am not sure who to be disappointed in this case. Should I be disappointed in Jeff for even attempting the move? Should I be disappointed in the other wrestlers (or WWE) to even allow that spot to happen?

I don't know, but I am just disappointed here.

1. Kane Wins!

5 of 5

Kane was the Intercontinental Champion. He was feuding over the World Heavyweight Championship. Yet, he was also the Tag Team title holder. There was no need for him to be around so much gold.

This was the perfect chance for him to drop the tag team belts. Hurricane (his tag partner) was taken out by Triple H, the man he was feuding with over the World title. He was in a unique setting (TLC), and his PPV match with the World/IC title on the line was in two weeks.

What happened? Kane won all by himself, defeated Chris Jericho and Christian, Bubba Ray and Spike Dudley, and RVD and Jeff Hardy.

That would have been fine, if there were big plans for him moving forward. Was there?

No. He lost the tag titles one week later to Chris Jericho and Christian (two men in the TLC match). He lost the World/IC title match to Triple H at the PPV (right call) and had no belts to speak of two weeks after his big TLC win.

Very disappointing outcome.

REMINDER: I am now on Twitter @JustinWatry! I give every new follower a special shout out, so do not be shy...thanks.
