NBA Rumors: Chris Paul May Sue the NBA and File Lawsuit in Coming Days
David Stern has never actually been very popular as the commissioner of the NBA, but maybe he's never been as unpopular as he's been during the past six months. His popularity rate is at an all-time low, but that's the least of his worries at the moment.
If the recent rumors of New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul possibly taking legal action against the NBA are true, Stern and the league will hit a new all-time low.
Paul and the NBA are close to treading into an area that neither wants to go. If they do, things could get very ugly. It would also set a precedent that could allow players to take action against the NBA every time they didn't get their way.
Stern and the NBA are already facing a PR nightmare after blocking any chance of Paul being dealt to either Los Angeles franchise. However, if this situation ends up going to the courts, things are going to get much worse from a PR standpoint.
Sure, Paul is frustrated and ultimately it could cost him quite a bit of money, but he may be taking quite a big step here.
If Paul elects to take legal action against the NBA, he would likely charge them with collusion and violating the league’s collective bargaining agreement. If he proceeds, he could also seek monetary damages and could ask the courts to allow one of the trades to go through.
To say the Paul situation has become a mess for the NBA would be a huge understatement. However, if things are a mess now for Stern, they are just a couple of steps away from becoming a pure disaster.
