Why Jason Garrett's Job Isn't Half As Safe as Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Claims
In an article by Michael David Smith of NBC Sports, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addresses the coaching situation of Jason Garrett:
""Asked on KRLD-FM today whether he might make a change at head coach if the Cowboys miss the playoffs, Jones offered a testy response.
“That is not a question worth responding to,” Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“The answer is no,” Jones said. “We are just getting started here.”
"
But how can we believe him? In this decade alone and more recently last season Jerry Jones has pulled a 180-degree turn on the football world before.

Smith continued in the article with the evidence:
""In October of last year,Jones said Wade Phillips was safe. In November, Jones fired Phillips and replaced him with Garrett. Jones also famously changed his mind about Terrell Owens, going from supporting Owens as an integral part of the Cowboys’ offense to sending Owens packing."
"
So with last season's quick change of heart (if you want to call it that) on current Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and then the controversial Terrell Owens, should we trust the words of Jerry Jones?
No.
And neither should Jason Garrett. Based on Garrett's decision to accidentally freeze his own kicker (or whatever that was) as well as his questionable play-calling in certain situations, it would be no surprise if Garrett was gone by season's end.
That is, if the Cowboys miss out once again on the playoffs thanks to a horrible December and a division rival besting them at the very end.
This season, however, is also different in Big D, because the offense is getting them in position to win close games and/or putting up points to outscore the opponent. The pass defense is supremely weak and with an abundance of injuries that have occurred throughout the year, Dallas appears to lack the ability to overcome all of this.
Maybe giving defensive coordinator Rob Ryan the ax is the better decision but, then again, this is Jerry Jones we're talking about. For all we know Ryan would be the interim if Garrett is fired.
All this being said, it's for certain that changes need to be made in Dallas. Where? Well, there's arguments for and against virtually every area.
When it all comes down to it though, why can't Jones just hire a General Manager? In any event, Garrett's job isn't safe based on how fast Jones has changed his mind before.
So to that end, barring Dallas finishing 10-6 and winning the NFC East to close out this season, it would not be a surprise if Jones goes once again, in another direction.
Apparently patience is no longer a virtue.
