Week 15 Waiver Wire Pickups: The Latest on Must-Adds for the Week Ahead
With the 2011 fantasy football season winding down, the numbers of legit players to add if you've been unfortunate with injuries has also dwindled down quite a bit.
So when making a change, caution is a must. That being said, even if a player has under-performed regardless of the position, that's also a good reason to drop him for someone else.
Hence, here are four players to add for Week 15.
T.J. Yates: QB, Texans
1 of 4He may not be your first choice or even second if your league starts two QBs; however, Houston QB TJ Yates has been playing well and with confidence.
Last week against a tough Bengals defense (on the road mind you), Yates was given the green light 44 times. Quite a lot for a third-stringer in a big road game.
Needless to say, Yates completed 26 of those 44 attempts for 300 yards with two TDs and one INT. This week the Texans play host to the 4-9 Carolina Panthers and their 19th ranked pass defense.
Thing is, they're even worse against the run. So, expect the Texans to run the rock to setup the pass nicely as the game progresses. Chances are Yates doesn't go for over 300, but he's proven he can get it done when it matters.
Arizona Cardinals Defense
2 of 4Right now, adding a defense may not be a major concern, but it's not a bad idea to consider. And one defense to take a gander at would be the Arizona Cardinals.
Now, they don't get a lot of turnovers, however, they also don't allow too many points (or at least haven't in the last five games). Also, the Cardinals are an excellent pickup if your league doles out points for special teams.
Therefore, with the returning ability of rookie CB Patrick Peterson, the odds of a good number of points being scored increase significantly. On the year Peterson has taken four punts back to the house, if you're not yet convinced.
Additionally, Arizona plays host to Cleveland this week and we all know how poor of an offense the Browns have.
Donald Driver: WR, Packers
3 of 4According to Mike Vandermause of The Green Bay Press-Gazette, Packers WR Greg Jennings will be out for at least a couple of weeks:
""Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Greg Jennings suffered a knee sprain against the Oakland Raiders yesterday and will need about 2 to 3 weeks to recover."
"
So with that being said, fellow Packers WR Donald Driver is not a bad option by any means. Now, Driver is 36 years old and going on 37, but he's still one of Aaron Rodgers' most reliable receiving targets.
On the year he has 31 receptions for 357 yards and has scored four TDs. Obviously, not numbers indicative of a starting fantasy WR, but with Jennings out you have to expect that Donald will get more looks.
Make no mistake about it, Rodgers will still dish the ball around and everyone will be getting looked at, but Jennings had seen 101 targets this year which is 31 more than the next guy (Jordy Nelson, 70).
So, with 31 extra passes being dished around to mainly four guys, Driver should get at least an additional three looks from Rogers. The passing game is still Green Bay's offense and to keep a rhythm, they must keep at it.
Matt Prater: Kicker, Broncos
4 of 4Kickers is fantasy football go overlooked for one reason, because they are kicker. However, these guys can really rack up some points when given the opportunity.
Here's the thing with kickers and fantasy football, you need to find a guy where the offense can move the ball well, but then stall on a consistent basis once inside the red-zone or slightly before. In turn, they'll attempt a lot of manageable FGs and count for a solid nine-to-15 points every week.
In Denver, Broncos kicker Matt Prater is a great option because not only does their offense struggle until minimal time is left, but Prater has a golden toe. It's not everyday we see a kicker nail two straight kicks from 50-plus yards that looked good from 70-yards.
With that in mind, if your league gives more than three points for 40-plus or 50-plus yard FGs, Prater is money virtually every time. Add in Denver's lack of TDs before the final minutes and he's bound to score you enough points to make a big impact.
