Knicks Rumors: Baron Davis Makes New York Terrifying on Offense
The New York Knicks have been major players so far this off-season, despite coming into the year not expecting to do much at all.
The addition of center Tyson Chandler could turn out to be huge for the Knicks, but they may not be done just yet.
According to the New York Post and Marc Berman, the Cleveland Cavaliers will waive point guard Baron Davis via the amnesty clause on Friday and the Knicks will be watching closely in an attempt to lure Davis to New York.
Even though Davis is having back issues at the moment, if he makes it through waivers and the Knicks find a way to sign him, it accomplishes something big for New York.
It makes them a very terrifying team at the offensive end of the floor.
They already have the best front court in the game with Chandler, Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire. That unit alone will provide plenty of scoring and, now with Chandler in the fold, should be able do do a decent job crashing the offensive glass.
What they are is a match-up nightmare for any team, every single night of the season.
Now if Davis could be added to the back-court, they get a guy who not only can run the offense effectively, but a proficient scorer as well. Throughout his career, Davis has averaged 16.5 points per game to go along with 7.3 assists.
Add that to a Knicks starting five that was already an explosive offensive team to begin with and this team should be outstanding offensively.
Not only that, but signing Davis would allow a guy like Toney Douglas to come off the bench where he could provide some scoring as well.
Anyway you look at it, signing Davis makes this Knicks offense very scary for opposing teams to have to deal with.
