Albert Pujols: Star Slugger's Wife Should Be Embarrassed by Stupid Comments
When the Los Angeles Angels signed Albert Pujols to a 10-year contract, there was a lot of backlash directed at him from St. Louis Cardinals fans who felt spurned by him and the team for not offering him whatever he wanted. Pujols' wife, Deidre, wasn't happy either and she knew where to direct her anger.
God.
That's right, the Almighty Himself. That is a new one to me, and I think Pujols would have been wise to tell his wife to just control any emotion that she was feeling.

Mrs. Pujols was on a St. Louis Christian radio station when she made the ridiculous comments. Here is the exact quote (via ESPN.com):
""When it all came down, I was mad. I was mad at God because I felt like all the signs that had been played out through the baseball field, our foundation, our restaurant, the Down Syndrome Center, my relationships, my home, my family close," Deidre Pujols told the station. "I mean, we had no reason, not one reason, to want to leave. People were deceived by the numbers."
She indicated the key moment was the Cardinals' initial offer of five years and $130 million.
"When you have somebody say 'We want you to be a Cardinal for life' and only offer you a five-year deal, it kind of confused us," Deidre Pujols said. "Well, we got over that insult and felt like Albert had given so much of himself to baseball and into the community ... we didn't want to go through this again."
"
I wanted to believe that this was fake because it is so insanely ridiculous that no human being with a brain stem would say something like that, but I was proven wrong.
Deidre doesn't think that five years and $130 million is good enough for her husband, so she blames God for the Cardinals' low-ball offer.
I don't know the woman, she might be the nicest person on earth, but when you start complaining about $26 million per year, something is wrong with you.
The Cardinals had no obligation to keep Pujols. I am sure they would have liked to, but they made what they thought was a fair offer. Who is she to blame God, or any Higher Power for that matter, for her husband not staying in St. Louis?
She said it on a Christian radio show, so maybe she felt a need to just bring religion and God into the mix at some point, but if this was the best time for her to do it, she should have kept her mouth shut.
If Albert really wanted to stay in St. Louis, he would have. But he wanted the biggest offer, and that's his right; there is nothing wrong with that despite what fans would have you believe.
These comments are an embarrassment for her entire family. She should be ashamed of herself for saying everything that she said, and in the future would be wise to at least think about what she is going to say before she actually says it.
Hopefully, God and the $254 million her husband did receive from the Angels will get her through this rough time in her life.
