David Stern: Why Is He Stopping Another Miami Thrice in the NBA?
David Stern has now faltered two blockbuster trades for Chris Paul, one of the top players in the league, to go play in a bigger market.
The common belief is that he is trying to keep the competitive balance in the league. He believes that is what is best for the NBA today.
However, I would have to disagree.
I am almost positive that NBA television ratings would have increased if Chris Paul was to pair up with Blake Griffin, and to be honest, the Clippers would have a slightly better chance of contending in the playoffs than the Hornets did with Paul.
The Hornets are now without David West, who has signed with the Indiana Pacers, and it's looking like Paul is going to be stuck in New Orleans this year.
I just don't understand how this is good for the NBA.
Paul on the Clippers would have provided the NBA with another exciting and energetic team that could compete day in and day out and provide exciting basketball down the stretch.
The trade was not unfair. The Clippers were prepared to a handful of key players in addition to a No. 1 pick in the NBA draft for Chris Paul.
I really don't see where they went wrong and what Stern deemed unfair.
At this point, he is keeping us NBA fans from seeing what we want to see, which will in turn hurt the NBA more than it helps it.
Meanwhile in Miami, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh are accumulating more help slowly but surely with the additions of Shane Battier, Eddy Curry and rookie Norris Cole.
Throughout the lockout, I believe this was something discussed a lot by the owners. The small-market owners don't like the idea of super teams knowing they will never be able to compete.
At the end of the day, the NBA is a business, and as an owner and GM, it is your job to be able to attract players to your team, no matter what.
I wouldn't say David Stern is ruining the NBA, but he definitely harming its reputation.
I almost feel as though he is going to figure out a way to deter free agents from signing where they want to.
I really wish I knew what David Stern was thinking, because from a fan's point of view, he's not looking too good and is angering both players and fans.
