NBA Free Agent Predictions: Where the Next 10 Players to Sign Will Land
NBA teams have been quick to offer free-agent contracts to the top big men in the first few days of the shortened free-agency period.
Marc Gasol, David West, Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan have all been offered a contract or have signed a deal with a new club since Friday.
There have been a few notable signings, but the major ones and surprises could be just days away.
Let's predict where the next 10 free agents who sign will land.
Will your team make a big signing soon?
Nene, Houston Rockets
1 of 10The Houston Rockets have desperately tried to sign a quality big man this past week.
When the initial Chris Paul trade was nixed by commissioner David Stern, the Rockets were not able to acquire Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers.
On Sunday, they offered Memphis Grizzlies restricted free agent center, Marc Gasol, a four-year, $55 million deal, but Memphis matched.
Nene should be the target Houston goes after next, and they have shown they are willing to pay a big price to upgrade their frontcourt.
Rip Hamilton, Chicago Bulls
2 of 10Rip Hamilton still has not been waived by the Detroit Pistons, but when he becomes free to sign with any team, all indications suggest he will join the Chicago Bulls.
Hamilton would make a nice addition to a Bulls lineup that does not have much championship experience.
Rip could provide consistent scoring for a Bulls team needing instant offense off the bench from the 2-guard spot.
DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers
3 of 10DeAndre Jordan has been signed to an offer sheet by the Golden State Warriors worth $42.7 million over four years, but it would be extremely surprising if the Los Angeles Clippers do not match it.
Jordan is a good young center whom the Clippers would be foolish to let go, and he and Blake Griffin will be a scary frontcourt duo for opposing teams to defend for many years.
Jamal Crawford, New York Knicks
4 of 10The New York Knicks tried to get free agent Jamal Crawford recently through a sign-and-trade but were unable to work out a deal with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Knicks just have too little to offer any team in a trade.
Despite this failure, I cannot see Crawford going anywhere but New York unless some team really overpays.
Chicago is better off with Rip Hamilton for less money and the Indiana Pacers are better off pursuing OJ Mayo, so the Knicks seem like a real fit.
Kris Humphries, New Jersey Nets
5 of 10Kris Humphries can get the New Jersey Nets a double-double nearly every night, and the team needs to sign him to a deal soon.
Humphries will not be an expensive signing, and he adds good skill to the team's frontcourt.
If the Nets fail to sign Nene or cannot acquire Dwight Howard via trade from the Orlando Magic, Humphries will need to be signed so the Nets' depth is not destroyed.
Arron Afflalo, Denver Nuggets
6 of 10The Denver Nuggets will probably sign restricted free agent guard Arron Afflalo soon, because his exceptional perimeter defense and outside shooting is vital to the team's success.
It appears that the Chicago Bulls are unwilling to make an offer for the free agent shooting guard, probably because they know the offer would almost certainly be matched.
Do not expect a team to offer Afflalo a contract—he will stay in Denver.
Samuel Dalembert, Dallas Mavericks
7 of 10With Tyson Chandler leaving to sign with the New York Knicks, expect his old team, the Dallas Mavericks, to look at signing free agent center Samuel Dalembert within the next few days.
Dalembert is a good defender and can rebound well.
With other quality players around him who can score, such as Dirk Nowitzki and Lamar Odom, Dalembert would not have to be worried about contributing a ton offensively for Dallas.
Dalembert would be an inexpensive but important signing for the Mavericks, who need another center.
Carl Landry, New Orleans Hornets
8 of 10Carl Landry played well for the New Orleans Hornets last season and averaged 11.8 points per game with the team.
The Hornets have already lost David West to the Indiana Pacers through free agency and cannot afford to lose Landry too, or their forward depth will be severely weakened.
If New Orleans wants to avoid being a last-place team, they have to re-sign Landry soon, as he could be their go-to forward this season.
Anthony Parker, New York Knicks
9 of 10Anthony Parker could sign with the New York Knicks soon, since the team cannot acquire anyone better with little salary cap space and few trade assets.
Parker could be a one-year wonder for the Knicks, who could certainly use some more depth at forward.
Parker would give the Knicks a versatile player who can play shooting guard or small forward, and he can stretch the floor with his quality outside shooting.
Delonte West, Boston Celtics
10 of 10Delonte West is an underrated player who won't hurt teams defensively and is capable of playing point guard or shooting guard in most offensive schemes.
The Boston Celtics would be foolish to not re-sign him.
West gives Boston versatility in the backcourt and is well liked by the fans.
The Celtics need some more depth because injuries have hurt them in recent seasons, and West knows the players, the coaches and the offense already.
Expect West to stay in Boston.
