UFC 140 Results: Chan Sung Jung and the Fastest Finishes in UFC History

Tim McTiernanDec 11, 2011

On Saturday night, Chan Sung Jung tied the official record for fastest knockout in UFC history when he finished Mark Hominick via KO in a mere seven seconds.

Jung is now tied with Todd Duffee for the record, but there are plenty of other fast finishes in UFC history.

Let's take a look at the fastest official finishes in UFC history.

No. 10 (tie): Gary Goodridge vs. Paul Herrera

1 of 11

At UFC 8, Gary Goodridge delivered a brutal knockout, as he KO'd Paul Herrera in 13 seconds with elbows from the crucifix position.

This fight is easily one of the most brutal knockouts in MMA history.

No. 10 (tie): Anthony Johnson vs. Chad Reiner

2 of 11

In his UFC debut, Anthony "Rumble" Johnson faced off against Chad Reiner at UFC Fight Night 10.

It was the second fight of the night, and it ended in a mere 13 seconds as Rumble knocked Chad Reiner out cold.

Rumble steps back in the Octagon at UFC 142, where he will make his middleweight debut against Vitor Belfort.

Don't blink.

No. 9: Rob Emerson vs. Manny Gamburyan

3 of 11

At UFC 87, Rob Emerson squared off with Manny Gamburyan and ended his night quickly.

In 12 seconds, Emerson hit Gamburyan with a solid right hand and followed it up with a left hand on the ground to end the fight.

Emerson was involved in another memorable fight when he and Gray Maynard were both deemed unable to continue.

No. 7 (tie): Duane Ludwig vs. Jonathan Goulet

4 of 11

Duane "Bang" Ludwig lived up to his nickname at UFC Fight Night 3, as he earned an 11-second knockout over Jonathan Goulet.

Ludwig actually knocked out Goulet in four seconds, but due to a timekeeping error, the fight went on, and it is officially an 11-second knockout.

Therefore, Ludwig is the unofficial holder of the fastest knockout.

No. 7 (tie): BJ Penn vs. Caol Uno

5 of 11

At UFC 34, BJ Penn—in his third ever MMA fight—faced off against Caol Uno, who was fighting for the 22nd time.

However, Penn showed that experience means nothing when you're the prodigy, as he won via knockout in 11 seconds.

Penn has since gone on to have one of the most illustrious careers in MMA history.

No. 6: Mark Weir vs. Eugene Jackson

6 of 11

At UFC 38, Mark Weir made his UFC debut. He sure made the most of it.

He wasted no time knocking out Eugene Jackson in just 10 seconds.

Weir then lost two in a row and was released from the UFC.

No. 5: Gray Maynard vs. Joe Veres

7 of 11

Hey, Gray Maynard! I mentioned him earlier.

Maynard's fast knockout came at UFC Fight Night 11, where he faced off against Joe Veres.

In just nine seconds, Maynard was able to knock Veres out.

Maynard's fast finish in that fight almost makes up for his lack of finishes in every other UFC fight.

No. 3 (tie): Don Frye vs. Thomas Ramirez

8 of 11

At UFC 8, Don Frye was part of an eight-man tournament, and took on Thomas Ramirez in the opening round.

In his first fight ever, Frye knocked Ramirez out in just eight seconds.

Frye went on to win the tournament and finish all his opponents in a combined 3:10.

It's the power of the 'stache.

No. 3 (tie): Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin

9 of 11

When James Irvin and Houston Alexander met at UFC Fight Night 13, nobody expected the fight to last very long.

However, nobody could have expected the fight to end as quickly as it did, as Irvin knocked out Alexander with a superman punch in eight seconds.

This was one of the most notable fights of both fighters' careers.

No. 1 (tie): Todd Duffee vs. Tim Hague

10 of 11

At UFC 102, Todd Duffee made his debut against Tim Hague. Duffee made the most of it, and made it clear that he would be a force to be reckoned with as he earned—at the time—sole possession of the fastest knockout ever, with a seven second knockout of Hague.

In his next fight, he dominated Mike Russow for the majority of the fight until being knocked out late in the third round.

He was later cut from the UFC and knocked out by Alistair Overeem in the first round at K-1 Dream Dynamite, in 19 seconds.

No. 1 (tie): Chan Sung Jung vs. Mark Hominick

11 of 11

On Saturday night, Chan Sung Jung tied the official UFC record for fastest knockout, as he beat Mark Hominick in a mere seven seconds.

Hominick came out wild with a left hook, and Jung calmly stepped back and threw a straight right, which floored Hominick.

Jung finished up with some fast ground and pound, and the fight was over.

It was a tough loss for Hominick, but it was an outstanding win for Jung. It is sure to catapult him up the rankings.
