UFC 140 Results: Jake Hecht Demolishes Rich Attonito with Devastating Elbow
Anybody who has ever watched UFC or practiced any sort of MMA knows and understands that the elbow can be one of the the most devastating parts of the body, but just in case you needed a refresher course Jake Hecht took it upon himself to demonstrate that at UFC 140.
Hecht, a newcomer to UFC took his record to 1-0 with an extremely impressive win over Rich Attonito with the TKO in round two of UFC 140.
It looked as if Hecht may have been a bit overwhelmed or out of his league in the UFC, but when he came out in the second round to knock Attonito out, all doubts about him were set aside.
Dann Stupp and John Morgan of mmajunkie.com reported on Hecht's first UFC win:
"As Attonito wrapped the hips, dropped to a knee and forced his opponent's back to the cage, Hecht delivered a solid elbow to the side of the head that slowed Attonito. He then delivered another, and Attonito briefly went limp. Hecht then followed him to the mat and unloaded a quick barrage of punches and elbows that forced Attonito to cover up.
"
The surprising stoppage came at the 1:10 mark of the round.
"I've lost a fight like that before when I fought UFC vet Che Mills," said Hecht, referring to a 2010 Cage Warriors 38 loss to the British fighter. "He did the same exact thing to me. Gotta learn from your losses.
"This is a dream. Words can't describe what I'm feeling right now. ... I felt him go limp and my instinct kicked in. I knew what I had to do. I had to stay composed, though."
Hecht is going to have a very good and very long career in the UFC, and this fight is going to be the foundation for success.
He showed that he is smart enough to learn from his mistakes, as he learned from his loss to Che Mills, and he also proved that he has the physical talents necessary to succeed in UFC.
Like I said earlier, the elbow strike can be one of the most ferocious and dangerous strikes in MMA, and when used correctly it can lead to a lot of wins.
He threw it perfectly against Attonito, and I expect to see it a lot more in the future.
Look out for Jake Hecht. He's got all the fundamentals a good fighter needs, and now he's got a win under his belt.
