UFC 140 Fight Card: 5 Fights That Will End in a Knockout
With UFC 140 right around the corner, fans are beginning to count down the hours for what could end up being one of the best fight cards of 2011.
The UFC will travel to Toronto and air live on pay-per-view television from the Air Canada Centre beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT and 9:00 p.m. ET.
The entire fight card consists of five main card fights along with seven preliminary bouts.
In the main event of the evening, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones will put his title up for grabs against No. 1 contender, Lyoto Machida.
What makes this card even more exciting is the high possibility of knockouts that could take place throughout the evening.
The following slides display five fights that will end in a knockout at UFC 140.
Jared Hamman vs. Constantinos Philippou
1 of 5In the only middleweight bout of the evening at UFC 140, newly transitioned middleweight Jared Hamman will take to the Octagon to square off with Constantinos Philippou.
The 185-pound bout has the potential to be one of the quickest fights of the night, as Hamman is clearly looking to make a statement early when action begins.
Hamman, one of the more exciting fighters in the UFC, has knocked out 10 opponents over the course of his career, as his striking has quickly become second to none.
Philippou is also a dangerous striker but lacks the stand up of Hamman.
If Philippou can't successfully defend against Hamman's powerful strikes, he may find himself in a fairly quick fight.
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Igor Pokrajac
2 of 5Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pakrajac will meet in what has potential to end in fight or submission of the night in Toronto.
Over the course of their careers, Soszynski and Pakrajac have combined for 22 knockouts. They have a tendency to let loose heavy fists.
When the opening bell rings, it's likely Soszynski and Pakrajac will swing for the fences in hopes of knocking one another out before they reach the second frame.
Fans can certainly expect this light heavyweight bout to end before it goes to the judges.
The only question is, who will connect on the impacting blow first?
Mark Hominick vs. Chan Sung Jung
3 of 5It's likely that Chan Sung Jung will make every effort to take the fight to the ground against Mark Hominick when the first fight of the main card begins.
However, if Sung Jung can't accomplish his set-in-stone game plan, he could be in for a world of trouble early.
Hominick is one of the most established boxers in MMA today and will certainly look to impose his will via stand-up when action begins.
If Sung Jung can survive an early storm, there's a chance he could take control.
But that's a big if.
Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
4 of 5Two of the world's greatest submission artists will take part in one of the most exciting bouts of the evening at UFC 140.
This will be the second time Mir and Nogueira meet, as Mir had the upper hand in their first go-around by way of knockout.
With excellent submission defense from both fighters, it's unlikely a tap-out victory will be the end result of this heavyweight showdown.
Neither Mir or Nogueira are overly talented strikers, but they certainly have the ingredients to finish off their opponent.
With this bout unlikely to see the judge's scorecards, fans can expect to see a knockout.
Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida
5 of 5In the main event of the evening at UFC 140, the youngest champion in UFC history, Jon "Bones" Jones, will look to defend his title successfully against Lyoto Machida.
While Jones is the clear-cut favorite heading into action, Machida can't be forgotten, as he has the skill set to finish 'Bones' on his feet.
If Machida can incorporate a variety of kicks and change up his attack, he'll have a chance.
However, Machida will have to accomplish something that no other fighter has up until this point in Jones' career.
When all is said and done, it's likely Jones will use his young athleticism, reach and stand-up to remain the UFC light heavyweight champion.
